Rays win fifth straigh

Don't look now, but the Tampa Bay Rays are just a half game out of first place in the AL East.

They've won five straight games, including a 7-1 win against the Yankees yesterday. According to the Associated Press, "Matt Garza pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits, walking one and striking out three while holding the Yankees in check with help from three double plays... Jason Bartlett and Dioner Navarro each drove in two runs for the Rays (22-16), who climbed six games over .500 for the first time in franchise history and also extended their home winning streak to a club-record 10 games."

I admit I vastly underestimated this team, mostly the pitching. They have a far superior rotation to the Yankees, that's for sure.

I knew they would be good, this good? No way. I think they are for real, James Shields is pitching out of his mind, Scott Kazmir is getting healthy, they have a lot of young talent, and now they have veteran leaders. Watch out for the Rays.

Re: Rays win fifth straigh

I got on the bandwagon in preseason. I still think they will finish 3rd in their division. They can't compete with the money the others can throw around, but they are playing great ball right now. They are also doing it without Garza. I thought he would have to pitch great this year for them to be where they are.
