Barry Bonds to Tampa Bay

ESPN is reporting that the Tampa Bay Rays are talking with Barry Bonds, and may bring in the all-time home run king. Good move?

Excellent move...ticket sales would go up...he gets a shot at 3,000 hits...and I might get to go see him play.

If I'm Barry Bonds I'm going to Japan over Tampa. But bringing in Bonds would be good for the Rays, he could still be a solid DH and he'll bring fans into the crappy stadium down in Tampa.

Re: Barry Bonds to Tampa Bay

Uh, the "crappy" stadium is in St. Pete.....

Barry will definitely bring a freak show atmosphere to the Trop, and put more butts in the seats which = more $$$$ for ownership, but not sure if that's the road to take with this young squad. He doesn't exactly exude a "team" mentality, and could set a bad example for the youngsters.......

Re: Barry Bonds to Tampa Bay

suedon's right. Bonds wants 3,000 hits, and the Rays want to increase attendance. In that regard, it's a win-win situation. But, I also agree with the whole team chemistry issue. That is a young up-and-coming team down there. Do you really want this kind of influence on them joining the roster? Even if he can bring in more money and possibly contribute to some more wins right away? Tough call.

Cool Re: Barry Bonds to Tampa Bay

Somewhere back when, I said this would be a good signing for Tampa. He'll put fannies in the seats and for once you might no be able to hear echoes in the Orange Juice Dome.

Re: Barry Bonds to Tampa Bay

Tampa is NEVER going to be competitive in a division with the Yankees and Red Sox. They may as well bring him in and see if they can make a few bucks. Tampa needs pitching, not hitting, but if he stays healthy he could draw some fans. The media circus that would surround him would bring some publicity to a team that never gets any.

What's so tough about it? You need a bat to protect Pena...and you are always going to have an ego to integrate into a team...Winning cures all club house blues...asks the 1977 yankees...

Re: Barry Bonds to Tampa Bay

I love the move. It will make an already potent offense even better, and I want to see him get 3000 hits and maybe 800 HRs
