I guess 'race' isn't the proper word. No team wants to finish dead last in the majors. But it seems like the Devil Rays have almost perfected it since their inception. Of course there was that one year the Tigers won 40-something games.

The Devil Rays have 65 wins as of Thursday morning. The only teams capable of undercutting them include Pittsburgh (67), Florida (67), Baltimore (67) and Kansas City (67).

The team that finishes dead last receive the #1 overall pick in the following year's MLB first-year player draft. The Devil Rays picked first this year.

At some point, all that talent has got to start producing...right?

Well, I guess it does give the fans something to be interested in, either hoping that they land that #1 draft pick or hoping that their team plays well enough that they don't finish with the worst record in all of baseball. That said, I think it'll either be the Rays or my Bucs who secure the 'honor' of the first overall selection.
