Cool Devil Rays call-ups

How do you know you have a young team? When it's time for September call-ups and you only call up 1 extra player. That's what the Devil Rays did.

Three of the Rays top four minor league affiliates are in the playoffs and the team has announced that none of those players would be called up before their seasons have concluded. Look for another 4-5 players to be called up once Durham and Montgomery have concluded the playoffs.

Re: Devil Rays call-ups

They called up two more players on Saturday - left-handers J.P. Howell and Jeff Ridgway from Triple-A Durham. Both guys will join the team today. According to the Associated Press, "Howell made 21 starts at Durham, going 7-8 with a 3.38 ERA," while, "Ridgway was 2-3 with a 3.06 ERA at Durham working out of the bullpen."
