D-Rays Sign #1 Pick David Price

The Devil Rays came to terms on a contract with #1 draft pick LHP David Price Thursday. Price could earn up to $11.25 million on his deal (includes a $5.6 million signing bonus).

The AP says the D-Rays plan to send the kid to Single-A Hudson Valley so he can get acclimated to pro ball, but won't pitch.

Quote:
Price, who could make his debut in the Instructional League this fall, said he's been working out and throwing every day and is eager to get started. He was the overall No. 1 pick in June after going 11-1 with a 2.63 ERA and a Division I-leading 194 strikeouts in his junior season.
If he makes it to the big leagues within 2-3 years, he could join a pretty good rotation anchored by Scott Kazmir and Edwin Jackson.

I agree. The Devil Rays should be putting all of their offensive players (except Carl Crawford and BJ Upton) and see if they can deal some of these guys for more pitching. That's how they can become competitive.
