The Tampa Bay Lightning signed first overall pick Steven Stamkos to a three-year, entry-level contract yesterday. The deal will be the rookie maximum, which is normal for all top prospects. The three-year deal is worth $2.625 million with potential bonuses of $11.175 million.
"I know it's not going to be easy for me to step in right away," said the 18-year-old Markham native moments after putting pen to paper at a news conference at the Bear Mountain resort just outside Victoria. "Hopefully I can earn my stripes and play well and really deserve to be there."
