Brooks and 5 others gone in Tampa

The Tampa Bay Bucks have released one of the greatest players in Bucs history, LB Derrick Brooks. Besides Brooks, receivers Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard, HB Warrick Dunn and LB Cato June were let go.
In his 14 years with the Bucs, Brooks had 25 interceptions.

What are they doing, getting rid of Brooks and the others is a stupid move if you ask me, they need a veteran like him on the team, someone who bring leadership.

Are the Bucs being cheap or trying to fit everything under cap.
What are they going to do, find their replacement in the Draft and Free Agency.

Part of it is the cap, but they are also changing their defensive scheme. No more cover 2. Brooks was ideal for that.

Re: Brooks and 5 others gone in Tampa

Brooks, the 2nd greatest Buccaneer ever. Arguably the greatest. Brooks has slowed down considerably the past few seasons. He has made the Pro Bowl on reputation alone. This certainly isn't a cost cutting move, except maybe if they don't want to pay a guy just to be a cheerleader like GoBears51 suggested.

The defense is changing. It's a new era of Buccaneer football. Geno Hayes has been viewed since training camp last season as the guy who will take the torch from Brooks. Geno was having a stellar season as a rookie until he was injured. I guess the Buccs have seen enough to feel confident in making the switch.

Cato June....wow, talk about overrated. Maybe that's why he lasted 20+ days in Free Agency when most fans thought he was a hot Free Agent commodity. Another young up and comer, ready to take the reigns in Quincy Black. Our LB corp now features 3 young, fast, hard hitting bulls.

Joey Galloway is washed up, and I personally was very disappointed they didn't get rid of him this time last year.

Ike Hilliard, man was that guy clutch. He was always more reliable than Galloway, he just didn't possess the GOD given tools Galloway possessed, but Ike was another guy who was seriously losing his game at a fast pace. Couple that with constantly being injured the last 2 seasons, and it's time to move on
