Jeff Garcia Wants More Money

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia has a year left on his contract, which will pay him $2 million this season, less than most starting quarterbacks make. So the St. Petersburg Times asked him: Is he disappointed in that contract?
"You could say that," Garcia said. "Talks haven't necessarily gone all that good.
"So in a way, it's disappointing. At this point in my career, I'm no longer 24 or 25 saying, 'I'm going to prove to you I deserve this.' I feel like I've proved throughout my career. And I feel like at this time, it's time to just work with me, and you know what I bring to the team. You know what I've done for the team, and you know how much more I can do. And now I have a year under my system."

Im gonna take a wild guess and say its because its a 38yr old jeff garcia. c'mn goth, like the writer said "teams don't give contracts to players as rewards for past performance, they give them to players as attempts to purchase future performance."

Well, seeing as the team doesn't have a better option...they should hope that Mr. Garcia doesn't tell them to stick it...like Jake Plummer did...

And it would hold water if you don't short change them upfront...

Exactly vince. Garcia had two really great seasons, but he is 38. I see Garcia struggling this year and being benched by midseason.

Agreed. Look, if it's an age thing, then give him the money and keep it a short term deal. Maybe with some club options. But he deserves a raise.

That sounds agreeable to me. That way Garcia gets what he wants and the Bucs are protected also.

Re: Jeff Garcia Wants More Money

From what I heard as well was that Garcia is more upset about missing out on his bonus when the Bucs sat him late in the season. I think they are saying it cost him around 2 million which he is looking to recover. He's not suppose to hold out, he's just letting it known that he's not happy.

Re: Jeff Garcia Wants More Money

I completely agree with Vince & Bette - Garcia's 38 & getting nothing but older and the Bucs actually do have other options at QB. We're not talking about going from a Peyton Manning to a Jim Sorgi here - he's the Bucs' best option at the present but could struggle or get hurt, which is why they brought in Greise. Or could add a better option via FA.....
