Even with Garcia, Gruden scans qb field

For the first time in 4 years, the Bucs will start a season with the same quarterback who ended the previous season.
The Bucs and Jeff Garcia start contract talks soon in an extension that would let him finish his career as a Buc. The Bucs think he has 1-2 years left has a starter. Garcia turns 38 in a few weeks.
But Gruden collects quarterbacks.
Back-up Luke McCown has arm strength and mobility but has questionable decision making skills.
Bruce Gradowski needs more time to develop and grow.
The Bucs still own the rights to Jake Plummer with a hearing still pending to get back some of his signing bonus.
But look for the Bucs to add a veteran. The guy to watch for is Daunte Culpepper. Others include Rex Grossman, Brian Griese and Chad Pennington.

Bucs: Even with Garcia back, Gruden scans QB field
Who thinks Garcia can still do it at 38? He thinks he will improve this year under Gruden.

Did I miss something I thought he was traded from the Broncos to the Bucs and he retired because of the trade. I don't see how Tampa Bay can get anything from Plummer. They were not the ones that paid Plummer his signing bonus. How is this possible?

Plummer can't officially retire until the team that holds his rights officially signs off on it, and the Bucs have refused to do so. Weird, huh?

What are the rules on this? Does the team owe him any money? Does he take up a roster spot?

Not sure - I guess maybe the Bucs are only out $$$ for the rights to Jake the Snake, but I would think there would be more of a consequence to this deal......

I think the Bucs could use another younger QB like Rex Grossman or Kyle Boller. Garcia is going into the last year of deal and is getting up there in age.

I agree that they need to look to the future with regard to their QB situation. Garcia has maybe 1 or 2 years left. McCown, with seasoning, could lead this team in the near future, but need another young QB in their stable....

They have a couple of developing qbs on the roster now, so they dont need Grossman or Boller. Not that they would be much help.
It was suggested that maybe Gruden would draft a quarterback.

Neither wins this way...that's a dumb stance for the club to take...they are out money and a QB...why go there?

What about Gradkowski? Are they giving up on him down there?

No they're not. They feel he needs more time to develop.

See, that's what I thought. So it really doesn't make any sense to draft at QB - not to me, at any rate.

Re: Even with Garcia, Gruden scans qb field

I know this is off topic but i found the perfect offseason for the bucs to go to their hometown stadium and become superbowl champions

1. start cadillac and put earnest graham as FB since alstot retired
2. draft another rb later on for cadillac to be rested up like mike hart
3. get chad johnson since we have no big time receivers beside galloway but hes old
4. draft a good returner for our special teams like deshawn jackson
5.acquire another good defense player like a d tackle
