Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end
Jerramy Stevens has been suspended for one game for violations of the league's personal conduct policy.
The
Tampa Tribune reports that the suspension will be without pay and that Stevens will also be docked an additional game check, meaning he's losing two-seventeenths, or just under 12 percent, of his total 2007 salary. Stevens was convicted of "extreme DUI" after being arrested in March with a blood-alcohol level of nearly three times the legal limit.
Stevens is a repeat drunk-driving offender, and given that, it's a little surprising that NFL commissioner
Roger Goodell let him off with only one game. In a league where
Chris Henry and
Tank Johnson are suspended for half a season,
Pacman Jones gets banned for a full year and
Odell Thurman has been banned for longer than that, Stevens should consider himself fortunate with this punishment.
