Our friends at PewterReport.com report that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter to a one-year contract.

Trotter was unexpectedly released by the Eagles to cap his second tenure wit the team. He drew little interest beyond Tampa, and will bring his non-Cover 2 skills to a Cover 2 defense.

Good call on their part - he officially signed with the team yesterday. According to what the AP is reporting, "It was not immediately clear how the 30-year-old middle linebacker, one of the leaders of the Eagles for most of the past decade, fits into coach Jon Gruden's plans. Linebacker is one of the strongest and deepest positions on the team." Will they be looking to deal someone, you think, and use Trotter to replace him?

I don't know - they could basically platoon Trotter & Ruud at middle LB depending on schemes. Ruud is only starting his 2nd year, so Gruden probably wanted some more experience at the position.
