A league source tells us that (as we surmised) the Bucs brought in quarterback Daunte Culpepper because coach Jon Gruden knows that, absent a very strong showing in 2007, Gruden will likely be bounced out of a job.
"He's going full balls to get the best team together," said the source.
That attitude explains the team's aggressive approach to free agency, and the curious decision to sign troubled tight end Jerramy Stevens.
With that said, we think the Bucs will be improved in 2007, with or without Culpepper. Gruden has never had his back to the wall before, and as long as his head doesn't explode the pressure should be good for him and the team.
