Bucs trading up?

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might be looking to trade up in the NFL Draft to acquire WR Calvin Johnson. They reportedly are even talking to the Raiders about the #1 overall pick. Should the Bucs trade up for Johnson, and if so, can they get a deal done?

Re: Bucs trading up?

Tricky situation. They really need a bigtime reciever. Is it worth trading a lot of picks to move up to #1 and take him? I think he's the most surefire selection in the draft, so I say go for it.

Re: Bucs trading up?

I wouldn't think so.

The Raiders aren't going to let this #1 pick opportunity get by.

They could use a QB more than a WR.

Re: Bucs trading up?

This comes after some rumblings that Oakland may not be sold on Russell as the #1 pick. Kiper said there was even a slight chance they could take Johnson themselves. Don't know if that's just a smokescreen, as happens around this time of year, or if Davis really is thinking about passing on a QB again this year. That'd be a huge mistake. But, I agree that if Tampa can pull off a deal to move up an bit and get Johnson, they should. Best player in the draft, and its a need position for Gruden's team.

Johnson?...no way...not while Davis calls the shots...

Now for the Bucs, If they get Johnson, I am definitely keeping the Caddie in my keeper league...

Lions, Bucs meeting prospects, talking trade
NFL News - 7 hours ago
Oakland has listened to offers for the No. 1 overall pick, but for now, the team seeming to field the most trade inquiries is the Detroit Lions at No. 2.

A Lions official confirmed that the team has received phone calls from at least eight teams interested in trading up to No. 2. One of those teams is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, now scheduled to pick at No. 4. The Lions and Buccaneers have had multiple trade conversations.

If Tampa Bay can't strike a deal to move up for Calvin Johnson, Detroit just might take him for itself.

If Tampa Bay were to trade from No. 4 to No. 2, it could allow the Buccaneers to draft Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson, whom team officials privately worked out April 13 with quarterback Chris Simms and wide receivers Michael Clayton and David Boston.

But the Lions official also added that none of the trade talks with Tampa Bay or any other team have become heated -- yet. And they are not expected to do so until this time next week, as April 28 creeps closer.

It is a good idea, but do they have anything that would make it worth the Raiders giving up the #1 pick? I don't see what they could offer.

Re: Bucs trading up?

ESPN reported the Lions wanted to swap first round picks and both of Tampa's 2nd round picks in a trade for the #2 pick.

Tampa turned down that request today. They will still try to trade for Calvin Johnson should they be unable to reach a deal prior to the draft.

Maybe with the Raiders... Davis reportedly would like to trade down, and going to #4 would still allow them to pick one of the top two QBs. I guess it all depends on what kind of offer the Bucs make.
