Bucs sign QB Jeff Garcia

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed QB Jeff Garica to a two year contract. Haven't heard a salary figure for the 37-year-old, three-time Pro Bowler just yet. "I do want to start. ... But I don't expect it to come without competition. I think competition is healthy," Garcia told reporters. "And if Jake Plummer were to show up here after I did, I welcome it. It's not a situation I'm fearful of." Good signing for Tampa Bay? I think so.

Re: Bucs sign QB Jeff Garcia

Remember they had Tim Rattay last year? Seems Gruden likes former Niners QBs. Good move, he should start right away and Simms can learn from him.

Great signing. Now all they need to do is get a receiver in there and stabilize that offensive line.

You can never overestimate the impact a solid veteran QB can have on a team.

Cool Re: Bucs sign QB Jeff Garcia

Boy, what kind of message is this sending to Chris Simms? He gives his spleen to the team and it appears now they'll take anybody but him as their QB.

Four, technically. Jake Plummer still hasn't filed his retirement papers, and the Bucs have his rights as well.

Garcia Eager To Compete For Starting Job
Pewter Report (subscription), FL - Mar 21, 2007
Garcia has always been intrigued by the possibility of playing for Bucs head coach Jon Gruden. After three offseasons of negotiations that didn’t prove fruitful enough to land Garcia in Tampa Bay, the 2007 offseason turned out to be a different story. Earlier this month, the ninth-year veteran signal caller inked a two-year contract with the Bucs.

Monday was Garcia’s first opportunity to actually work with Gruden, and he’s the first to acknowledge that he has a lot to learn from head coach/offensive coordinator.

“I’m excited about it just because of the offensive mind Coach Gruden has,” said Garcia. “He presents what he expects out of his quarterbacks in terms of their knowledge of the game and how to run this system. I’m just here to try to learn as much as possible and be the best that I can be. I think Coach Gruden can help me be that guy.”

Re: Garcia Eager To Compete For Starting Job

I think its a pretty good signing for Tampa Bay. Chris Simms isnt exactly a solid starter and nor is Gradkowski. IMO the QB that looked best last season was Rattay and theres now rumors of him going to ATL. So let simms watch Garcia for a year or two then see how he does.
