Question Signature Ads?

This is a first for me. I have never seen advertisements in thread posters signatures on any other forum. I'm not complaining Lefty, just never seen it before. Gotta pay the bills.

Re: Signature Ads?

That's me fiddling around with how to get back a little of what's been invested so far. Looking for the right blend of not being too in your face but still getting some income. The ads I've run so far have totaled just north of nothing so looking for a little better than that

I may or may not keep the signature ads but I'll let them run for at least a few days before I decide. If you really hate them, tell me. Doesn't mean that I'll do what any one person suggests but I do appreciate any feedback that makes the board better on my quest to reach "break even" (or better).

Thanks, Ross

Re: Signature Ads?

I just noticed this today. I'm trying with a signature. Sorry, Ross I don't like it but...we could get used to it. But like Nevada says, gotta pay the bills. And thank you for this site. Ya know, I'm going to do a thread thanking you.

Re: Signature Ads?

with the size you have above I think it a good idea, not to big but gives the sponsor more exposer in the threads them selves.

I would segest not getting into ads with alot of flipping messages and any type of video.
for us dail up people it really slows the loading process, I hate getting on nascar.com at work, I have cable at home at nascar.com still takes a few minutes to load the front page.

thanks either way it's great site!

The time it takes webpages to load is a pet peeve of mine. The forum software is really powerful (lot of features) but it makes for a 200k page. When I design or consult on websites, my usual goal is <50k. So, for instance, I've limited the file size that people can use for avatars & pictures they post. Also keeping this in mind as I introduce ads. We'll stay away from the slow-loading spinning bananna jumbo ads, I promise

But I'll continue to monkey around looking for the right blend of making a couple bucks while maintaining a good user experience. The VERY early results are positive on those signature ads. Hopefully we'll find the right happy medium. These ads are generated automatically & are supposed to be somewhat related to our topics (they don't always get it right). The idea being that some will be of interest to members and visitors as opposed to running non-targeted ads.

BTW, if you want to try a much faster loading version of the forum, read about the new PDA/Dialup Version of GoTeamsGo Sports Forum.

Re: Signature Ads?

I honestly have no problem with ads above or below the postings but I will say that to put ads in our postings is annoying. The ads outside of the posting seldom if ever catch my eyes ... mainly because I come to the sites for a purpose and the purpose isn't to look for ads. Sorry sponsors. Either way I do enjoy the forums and whatever you must do to keep it up and running is fine by me. Looks like I will have to use a signature now.

You've just summed up why most forums just suck money from the owner. Ads that are in "the usual places" are easy to tune out and are almost always ineffective.

No problems. Happy to have you and everybody posting/participating whether or not you help me make my 1st million

Seriously, the focus is on growing the community and keeping this a place where it's fun to chat sports. That will always be goal #1 for GoTeamsGo.

Make it like the old George Burns - Gracie Allen shows, right? "Speaking about Reggie Bush's 40-time... have you had your Carnation Evaporated Milk yet? It's the only Evaporated Milk made by contented cows! And it can make you run fast like Reggie Bush, the projected #2 pick to the Saints!"
