Avatars. Why do we need a permission slip? This is bad.

Ok Admin, Moderators and great Members here.

Quack Attack Opinon: Not to upset Admin, Mods or Current Members: This is only my opinion and not to offend anybody on this website who may have different views or find my opinion offensive:

As most of you know currently, I don't currently have an avatar attached to my profile. I have been on thousands of forums in the last 15 years but never seen a site like this where you seem to have to get special permission to get an avatar? Personally and in my opinion think is rediculous insult to members if I may be so bold to get special permission to get an avatar on a forum.

Lets give good members here the option in their profile to choose or upload an Avatar like every forum I have ever been on in my life. Hey, if there is an administrator here who can give me even a somewhat valid reason for not allowing this I am happy to listen.
In my opinion, it should be an absolute option where you should not have to get special permission from anybody on this board.

Question finally? Why is not the option to create or select an avatar not in our profile options??? Personally, I have never seen these kinds of restrictions and may scare away future awesome members or posters. If admin is going to say it wastes bandwidth, this is a lie. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents here on this issue. Thank you.

P.S. If admin or moderators are going to tell me that it uses up too much bandwidth and slows down the forum...I can only say from my experience... and other IT professionals...I believe this not only to be a lie but a deception! This forum is not only not even being close to being big enough for bandwidth to being a problem yet. In the future, we all hope this is a problem. Thank you.

P.S. In conclusion, can all members have their own freedom to choose their Avatar in their profile options? I don't want to apply for a special permission slip? If newer members get them or banned members have them...just delete them and their avatars/profiles go away...right? Or do I have it all wrong?

You do like to shake up the status quo, dont you?
Its quite simple. You are aware that the staff keeps a close eye on this forum and enforce the rules. We dont want anyone downloading something offensive. If the issue of an avatar is so important that someone avoids this forum, then perhaps they arent someone we really need around anyway. Sports and good discussions are the main thing here.
As for your last paragraph, I spend enough time on here chasing spammers and such, I will be darned if I am going to spend time looking for avatars that need deleting also.
You are not applying for a permission slip. When you meet the requirements send your link to an admin and bingo, there it is.

Re: Avatars. Why do we need a permission slip? This is bad.

As Bette has so eloquently noted, we don't have the time or desire to track down every new member who wants to add some offensive avatar, and trust me some have asked for ones that I wouldn't post in a mens locker room. This has been the rule since the site was created. As a matter of fact when I first joined only a very select few were permitted avatars. Obviously that changed later.

To the best of my knowledge you are the first to ask that we change the system that has been in place for 4 years. We do consider all requests but with the experience we have with spammers and fly by nighters it isn't real likely that any change will occur. Once again we will discuss it and if there is a consensus for a change ... we'll do it.

Thanks for the comments everybody. It was just a suggestion and didn't realize spammers were abundant. I suppose it would be a headache to look for offensive avatars as well and didn't consider this.

All you need is 50 posts and a total of 2weeks being here, so you more then qualify.

Thats because we spend so much of our time keeping them out of here.

I really, really want to upload that Gordon avatar LSC. Please???? What can he do about it. Who cares if he cancels the next booze delivery. It would be worth it. I never go into that smelly old trailer anymore anyway.
No one told him he had to chug the beers and do the shots. He added that in on his own. Dont know what he's whining about.
