Re: stanley cup winners

Not a bad choice, but the 1969-1970 team might be even a little better. Pretty much the same players, and if you consider the team to be Orr's Bruins, this was the series against St. Louis where Orr's overtime goal was what won Boston the cup. You are absolutely right about their "awesome" offensive capabilities. Back then I lived about thirty miles from Boston and had season tickets. The offense you mentioned was like a machine, with Ken Hodge on the right wing, Wayne Cashman on the left and Phil Esposito at center they were almost unstopable. And one can't forget the offensive contributions of what's his name out there on the point. You know, that #4 guy. I don't know how many times a game would come down to the last five minutes with the Bruins down by one or two goals. The atmosphere was always electrifying, and the offensive power was so strong that the fans literally came to expect that the Bruins would win even under these conditions. Whenever the Bruins came up short, the fans would actually appear shocked. If ever there was a bunch of spoiled fans, this had to be it. As a Boston fan I remember it well, but unfortunately the championships only occured two out of three seasons. Being purely objective though, I also remember Montreal when they put together a run of six championships out of a ten year span. A gentleman by the name of Ken Dryden having quite a bit to do with that as I recall. It might be a little difficult to argue the Bruins case against that of the Canadiens.

Cool Re: stanley cup winners

How about the 1981-1982 Islanders?

1) They led the league with 118 points and won their third straight cup.
2) They won a then-record 15 straight games during the seasons.
3) In the last 2 rounds of the Stanley Cup finals, the swept both the Quebec Nordiques and the Vancouver Canucks.

Dryden as a rookie derailed one of those great Bruins team in the playoffs...still, all being equal, I take the Bruins...

Re: stanley cup winners

Gretsky's Oilers, and I was a Bruin's fan back in the day. Orr though was the biggest thing to hit New England since Ted Williams.
