Marshall Faulk retirement rumors

Could Rams running back Marshall Faulk be thinking about hanging them up? That's what the AP is reporting, citing the fact that his knees have been slow to heal following offseason surgery. Faulk is ninth on the career rushing list with 12,279 yards, but ran for a career worst 292 yards last season. I'm not even going to ask about the Hall of Fame -- he's a shoe in, regardless of when he retires. But do you think Faulk hang them this season?

Re: Faulk still undecided on future

Apparently, the verdict's still out, but his agent says we should know within the next week to 10 days. He may come back, he may retire, or he may spend next season doing TV and return in 2007. Personally, I agree with earlier comments that it's time for him to ride off into the sunset. But forget what he SHOULD do; what WILL he do?

One of the greatest powerbacks of all times. Did what Roger Craig did in rushing for 1,000 yds and recieving for 1,000. Had some injury problems but id say lived up to his hype (at least for the Rams) and is a Superbowl Champion and a shoo-in for the HOF. I always liked Marshall Faulk!

Re: Marshall Faulk retirement rumors

Yeah Lefty Noob look's more and more like Faulk's retirement is drawing ever closer. Gonna hang up the cleat's and pick up broadcasting mike..

Per KFFL:

Rams : Faulk surgery update
Fri, 21 Jul 2006

:Updating previous reports, Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports St. Louis Rams RB Marshall Faulk's upcoming knee surgery could end his career. The surgery will require 8-12 months of rehab, which means a tough road to recovery is ahead for Faulk if he decides to continue playing. Faulk reportedly may do broadcasting work throughout the season while he goes through the rehab process and then decide whether or not to return to the field in 2007.

Re: Marshall Faulk retirement rumors

That's about what I expected. Faulk's been great, but as the old beer commercial says, know when to say when, Marshall. Even if he comes back, he's at best the #3 tailback on the St. Louis Rams roster. Why go through all that rehab just to tarnish a stellar career?

Re: Rams won't have Faulk this season

Rams coach Scott Linehan all but confirms that he's done in this interview.

"When your legs start to go, that's a big concern for any athlete, especially a running back," Linehan says. "The reality of the situation is that he probably won't available for us this season, and he has to come to terms with whether he is going continue trying to play... He's had a great career, but unfortunately for us, it's winding down."
