After 10 years Little apologizes for killing woman

Even if you don't want to forgive him, Leonard Little wants to say he's sorry, and it has taken him nearly 10 years to get up the nerve to do this publicly. So what we witnessed on this Tuesday afternoon was another phase in the personal penance the Rams defensive end is paying as retribution for the fateful night of Oct. 19, 1998, when he climbed behind the wheel of his Lincoln Navigator and made two fateful turns out of a hotel parking area, then struck and killed Susan Gutweiler. The toxicology reports said Little was drunk, and he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and served 90 days in jail. There are plenty of angry people out there who think Little got off easy, that his sentence was too short, that the punishment didn't fit the crime. It might surprise you to know that for a long time, Leonard Little was one of those people. "A few weeks later, I tried to kill myself," he said Tuesday afternoon as he sat inside the principal's office sipping bottled water. "I had gone back home to my mom's house outside Knoxville (Tenn.), and the first thing I did was just go down in her basement. It had no windows, just a bathroom, a sink and a television. I stayed in the dark for days. All I did was cry. I couldn't deal with what I'd done." His mother could see the pain eating away at him. His mother made him go see a psychologist in Knoxville. -- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

To bad he didn't succeed. I don't even know who he is, but I have no sympathy at all for a drunk driver who kills someone. 90 days in jail, what a joke.

I forgive him. Maybe he was just in so much shock he finally came out of it to apologize. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance specially if it was accidental.

When you make the decision to drink then drive and hit someone, I don't call it an accident. She didn't get a second chance because of his stupidity so why does he deserve one?

When does Susan get her second chance ??? Did he accidentally get drunk enough to accomplish this feat ???

To me the level doesn't matter. He was drunk and driving. And it couldn't happen to anyone, cause most people are responsible enough to not drink and drive. It only happens to dumbasses.

If your over the legal limit, your over it and at that point the level doesn't matter cause it's illegal.

A little drunk ??? Is that like being a little pregnant ??? Either you are or you are not. Apparently he was. Try explaining your theory to Susan's parents & family.

You're correct ... the level does matter. He was a an illegal level. She's dead, he's guilty. He gets up every day, she doesn't.

Yeah im not saying drunk driving is ok. Im just saying the level does matter, and he didnt hit her entirely because of the alcohol.

But she died because of him. He was intoxicated. He's guilty. 90 days was nothing. Death lasts much longer than life. Life ended prematurely and unnecessarily isn't acceptable in this case.

You are right. The level does matter. A lot of people a lot smarter than most of us spent years studying and testing this topic. Their conclusion was that anything above a .08 will impair your reflexes and affect your driving ability. The article didn't say what the level was, but if it was the .8 that you mentioned, he would be almost in a coma. It would be entirely the alcohols fault. Even if it was .081, it would be the alcohols fault because he should not have been on the road, and I don't have much respect for somebody that would even consider defending him...heck, he even blames himself.

He is very lucky that he got the DUI in america. There are other countries that are more strict than we are. A friend of mine got a DUI, and one of the classes he had to attend showed what other countries do to drunk drivers. Their were firing squads, cutting off hands, and my personal favorite was putting the offenders family in jail until the fine was paid off. I can't remember the names of the countries...just the punishments.

These athletes just think they're above the law and with a 90 day jail sentence it's hard to argue that they're not.
