St. Louis Rams Sign Trent Green

Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the St. Louis Rams have agreed to terms on a contract with free agent quarterback Trent Green.

This will be the second stint in St. Louis for Green, who grew up in the area. He previously spent the entire 1999 season on injured reserve for the Rams, watching the team win the Super Bowl after he was hurt in the preseason. He then started five games as Kurt Warner's backup in 2000.

After the 2000 season Green was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he stayed for six years, and then the Miami Dolphins, where he started five games in 2007. In both of his last two stops he was carted off the field after taking shots to the head, and that has raised questions about whether it's safe to be back on the field. But Green says he's been medically cleared to play, and he will, as Marc Bulger's backup, in 2008.

Yes, I believe they have. I personally think resigning Frerotte would have made more sense.

Trent was 3 times the quarterback Gus is.
Besides, he is terribly injury prone.

Having said that, Gus isnt much either.

no, thats not the point Seahawker. If he gets hit a little bit too hard, he's going to be out for awhile, if not the rest of the season. The injuries have taken their toll on him besides getting older and he's just not the same quarterback anymore.

sadly enough if he gets hit hard again it could possibly be his life, this dude is crazy to keep risking it..

Green's in Troy Aikman/Chris Miller territory now. He's had so many concussions, a light hit could cause another. Time to get out, now.

Its kind of hard to understand someone like Green. I understand about passion for the game and all, but its kind hard to play with passion if youre dead or in vegetable type state. If I was his wife, I would be screaming bloody murder. How much clearer could the writing on the wall be??????????

Well, he was cleared by a specialist. And, if we can shore up the O-Line, and if they can avoid the myriad injuries of last year, Green may not even see the field. Green could prove invaluable in helping to tutor any young QB that the Rams might draft, possibly in the middle rounds, since he knows Al Saunders' system so well.

I more than agree that he would be invaluable in tutoring a young QB.
And even though he was cleared by a specialist, for his own sake I would hate to see him on the field. If they shore up the O line, if they avoid injuries, just too many ifs in there.

So were Troy Aikman and Chris Miller. Concussions are dangerous things... I just don't like the risk he's taking.
