Mark Mulder of the Cardinals was placed on the 15-day DL today, and the word is that the St. Louis pitcher may be done for the season. He has a shoulder surgery that may or may not require offseason surgery, the AP is reporting. Mulder had a rather uninspiring 6-7 record with a 7.14 ERA this season; how much of that can be attributed to his ailing shoulder?

It all should be attributed to his shoulder. Too bad the team didn't realize the injury's seriousness sooner. Hopefully Mulder can get it fixed and come back whenever he can, 100%.

To the Cardinals playoff chances, this is a huge hit. They can't rely on hoping to get their ace back, even though he's been anything but an ace this year.
