| Re: Top Three Cardinals Franchise Players Ozzie was great, but he doesn't make this list. Stan the Man is one. Lou Brock - six time All-Star, first player to steal 50 bases and hit 20 home runs in the same season, 3,023 career hits, incredible base stealer (his 938 career steals was the record until broken by Rickey Henderson), one of The Sporting News' 100 Greatest Baseball Players of All-Time. Bob Gibson - 3,117 career strikeouts, 8-time All-Star, 2-time Cy Young Award winner, 9-time Gold Glover at pitcher, 1968 NL MVP, holds MLB records for most strike outs in a World Series and most K's in a World Series game, 2.91 career ERA, 56 shutouts and one of the best hitting pitchers in baseball history as well.

| Re: Top Three Cardinals Franchise Players Ozzie makes the list and thats final. People tend to underestimate the skill it takes to play short in major league ball. It's probably the toughest spot but people don't understand it unless the fielder can hit. If you don't have a good shortstop, you're screwed. You command the infield, you have a slingshot arm and your reaction time is second to none. That was ozzie. Tony Fernandez is pretty close as is reyes from the mets and even macdonald from the jays but ultimately, we can't underestimate the flawless infielder....the shortstop. |
