The Cardinals have promoted Jason Isringhausen back into the closers role. He will replace the struggling Ryan Franklin.

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, "The role reversal occurs following a series of late-inning meltdowns by a bullpen that has suffered 23 losses and 25 blown saves this season. Scored upon in its past eight games entering Monday, the bullpen had allowed seven home runs and 15 earned runs in 33 2/3 innings. The bullpen reached Atlanta on Sunday having worked at least three innings in seven of eight games."
