Cards Pujols may need ligament replacement surgery soon?

Cards slugger Albert Pujols' left elbow will have much to say about his production. He consulted this winter with Birmingham orthopedist James Andrews and learned that ligament replacement surgery was an option. Pujols rejected that, hoping extra rest and a less aggressive weightlifting regimen would help the ulnar collateral ligament make it through one more season. "For an outfielder, he told me it would be a nine-month recovery; for a first baseman, seven or eight months," Pujols said. "It would be the whole season for me. That's not something I want to go through if I can help it." -- St. Louis Post-Dispatch

He may as well have the surgery. Every time Dr Andrews name pops up surgery is never far behind. He must be the last resort for athletes.

Bad situation for Pujols. It seems that no option for him is really a good one at least for the 2008 season.

This is a hundred loss team without Pujols. Maybe a 90 loss team with him. It ain't gonna be pretty.

It is going to be a pretty grim season in St Louis. They are already going to be without Carpenter.....and now this happens with Pujols. He may as well go with the surgery. This season is going to be a washout anyway. Start strong next season with everybody healthy.

Which is why he should just have the surgery. It's not like this team's going anywhere, so why put it off?
