Everyone knows Tony La Russa and Scott Rolen haven't gotten along in a while. Still, it's surprising to see a manager publicly go after a player the way La Russa goes after Rolen in today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I'm not even going to beat around the bush, let's go to the quotes:

"Speaking for me ... there's absolutely no intention to accommodate Scott," La Russa said. "I mean, that's not how you run an organization. The idea is to accommodate the St. Louis Cardinals, our team, our responsibility to our players and to the competition. So, no, I don't want to accommodate Scott."

It's very clear that he's unhappy. And I'm making it clear that I don't know why he's unhappy," La Russa said. "I can make a list of 50 respect points that this man has been given by our organization. It's time for him to give back."

Added La Russa: "He's got a contract to play, and we need him to play. And he's going to be treated very honestly.

"If he plays hard and he plays as well as he can, he plays. And if he doesn't, he can sit. If he doesn't like it, he can quit."

I can't stand LaRussa, but to be fair, Rolen couldn't get along with Larry Bowa, either.

Other than saying it in the paper, I agree with everything he said. Rolen has a contract. He needs to play well or he will be benched.

Rolen needs to play...and La Russa needs to shut up...you don't dress down a player in public...what will that really get you?

What Larussa did was unprofessional, Ive never really liked him as a coach either, just my opinion, he needs to watch Bobby Cox to learn how to be a real manager and how to treat your players..
