Tommy John surgery for Carpenter

Major setback for Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter. He needs Tommy John surgery to fix his messed-up elbow. Carpenter is scheduled to undergo the procedure next week, and will miss the rest of this season and most of 2008. Back in May they removed some bone spurs from his elbow, and according to what skipper Tony LaRussa told the AP, "When they removed three spurs, we thought that would be the end of it... It wasn't until the first part of this week that I heard 'ligament' for the first time... We're going to miss him. Everybody knows what he means to us."
