Cardinals Target Luis Gonzalez

AT STLtoday.com, this was a tidbit in an article about the Cardinals and their recent off-season move to bring back Edmonds.

"Clifton also represents free agent outfielder Luis Gonzalez, believed to be leaning heavily toward signing a one-year deal with the Cardinals shortly after the market opens.

Gonzalez, 39, has told associates he would prefer to play in St. Louis. He also made inquiries about the organization while serving as an analyst for Fox during the postseason."

This sounds like a pretty good deal if it rings true for the Cardinals. Gonzalez is a good doubles hitter and he could provide some veteran leadership (not that they lack it) and some experience (again, not that they lack it).

Re: Cardinals Target Luis Gonzalez

Is there any inclusions in this proposed deal, such as an option (player or team?)

I know it may sounds stupid, but is does make a difference in the long run.

Talking Re: Cardinals Target Luis Gonzalez

Signing Gonzo could make a great impact in the long run...it could allow the Cards to unload Juan Encarnacion and replace him with Chris Duncan. Chris is young and could strengthen the lineup for many years. That would also open up money for the rotation creatin the best chance for the Cardinals to win another series. And since the rotation will be solid it makes the pitching even better. With two straight championships the baseball world may finally acknowledge that the birds are the dominant force in the NL. Media coverage will bring player and sponcer interest, and a successful club will further thrive. Also, its about time that gonzo came to a team that can definately benefit him as much as he does for his team.

How much do you think "Gonzo" will contribute to the Cardinals' organization?
