| World Series Game 4 - Detroit Tigers vs. St. Louis Cardinals The Cardinals come into tonight's game with a 2-1 Series advantage. Can the Tigers come back to tie the series up in this one? St. Louis sends Jeff Suppan (12-7, 4.12 ERA, 104 K, 69 BB, 21 HR) against Detroit pitcher Jeremy Bonderman (14-8, 4.08 ERA, 202 K, 64 BB, 18 HR). The stat of the night comes from the Associated Press, which reports "Detroit is batting only .185 in the World Series, including .154 (2-for-13) with runners in scoring position." So who wins tonight's game: the Detroit Tigers or the St. Louis Cardinals? It's too late to predict the outcome of tonight's game, but starting tomorrow, you could win FREE TICKETS just by correctly selecting the winner and the final score of any World Series, NFL or college football game, or NASCAR Nextel Cup Race, and you could be eligible to win free seats to see your favorite team play live! Check out the official contest rules thread for more details, and good luck!

Now THAT was a great game! Even if the Tigers are now down 3-1 in the Series ... they honestly didn't deserve to win that one last night due to the errors by yet another pitcher and other booboos. Wilson was outstanding making that sliding catch, one Granderson couldn't match due to the "slippage," and Monroe couldn't quite make it either, though it was a valiant effort. Even game MVP Eckstein gave him all due props for that! I was glad to see "little David" do so well and win MVP for this one. He's just amazing in so many ways, and proves ya don't have to be a "big guy" to succeed splendidly in Major League Baseball! Interesting now that the Cards are up 3-1 just like they were in 1968 -- and in which WS they ended up losing to the Tigers in the 7th game. VERY exciting, too. Of all the games and World Series matchups I've watched for almost five decades, that 1968 battle is the one that has stuck in my memory the most vividly. Especially game seven! I'll bet Al Kaline is having flashbacks like crazy right about now, too.... Excitement about this WS that "some" have criticized (I'm honestly baffled as to WHY, but anyway they're doing it) may well build now, drawing in more viewers just like that Series in 1968 did as well. Anything to distract us peons from the nightmare of an ongoing war for at least a few days. If the Tigers pull off winning the next two games, we'll be set up for another 7th game that could be a real thriller. And even if the Cards take it all home with them tonight, I still feel it's been a good postseason all the way around. Lots of surprises and upsets, few people getting predictions right, underdogs moving on, favorites left behind ... this one had it all. If even one more game (tonight's) is as good as game four, I will count this WS as an exceptional one. And if the Cards walk over the Tigers tonight, I'll still be satisfied, because so many people have been dismissing those poor Redbirds at every turn. Kinda like poetic justice if they WIN this WS instead of losing it in the clutch as in 1968! It's been quite awhile for both teams to nail the World Championship, so either way I think it's been a rewarding year for many. And Pudge finally started connecting with the ball -- THAT was nice to see! |
