Albert Pujols, The Jerk?

These are all quotes from him during the beginning of the NLCS while in New York...

"Get out of my freaking locker - you people are a pain, you know that?" --Pujols to the media.

“He wasn't good. He wasn't good at all. I think we hit the ball hard, we didn't get some breaks… I say he wasn't good at all. We just didn't get some opportunities and that's it… He did same thing that he always does. Throw a changeup, fastball and that was it. I just think we should've done a better job than we did..." --Pujols on Glavine after Game 1

Why is that he comes off like a big jerk after his days in New York earlier in the week? This is the first time I've ever seen him act like this. Kind of makes you wonder if all the talk of him being the best in the game is getting to his head.

Yeah, I was really surprised by Pujols' attitude this week in New York. Maybe it was the NY atmosphere that got to him...

I like it!...I mean, if you guys have a bad day at work and 30 people crowd around you at the end of the day asking how it feels to blow the big deal...tell me you would not react this way sometimes...geez, give these guys a cool off period before you crowd them out for a story.

I can understand if he is annoyed that the media follows him!

Do you recall the Randy Johnson camera incident, MVB?

I agree with Goth. Athletes need a 20-30 min cool down period after a game before they are approched by non-team personnel. Otherwise you are gonna hear coach bashing, team mate snipes and things like this. Besides, everyone knows Steve Martin is The Jerk!

From all that I've read about Pujols, he is a very down to earth guy. The New York media will pressure you into saying things, and then take them out of context for their own need to sell papers. As for Glavine, I was sure he was frustrated. Just watch the movie "61" to see how the media does its job in the Big Apple.

He's not a very friendly person. i was happy when i found out i got to meet him till i really did and i probally wouldnt want to again.. He's hot and all but not friendly. i wouldnt call him a jerk, but i would say he's not a social person

I don't know what kind of "thing" you went to, but maybe you should try to cut him a little slack. Could you imagine what it is like to be him. He has to say "hi" and shake hands with fans all day. He could have just gotten some bad news that made him moody. If he talked to everybody and signed every autograph, he would not be able to live his life.

I remember when he said this thinking that is what Glavine has done his whole career. That is what makes him great. He locates his pitches to hit it where he wants you to, and he changes his speeds. It is what's going to put him in the Hall someday.
