Austin Dillon Driving the #3 Car Full Time Next Year

Richard Childress announced yesterday that he's moving Austin Dillon up to the Nationwide Series full time next year to drive the #3 car. His brother, Ty, will be moving up to the Truck Series next year to drive the #3 truck. No word as of yet what Austin's paint scheme will look like.

It's just a number!

If he runs a stylilized #3, then it might be another story to some (Not me, but I'm just one person), but just using the number three? Since he already had four full time cars anyway I see no reason for NA__AR to allow him to keep the number.

It's not the number that bothers me..... it's the thought of all the new trash and trinkets that will be hittin the market and be crammed down our throats

I know. I know. It's been ten years. Richard owns the number.

But it still bugs me.

Bugs me too. I think when that number comes back it should be a "top tier" driver, not a rookie. But that is just my opinion.

I like the idea of the number going to a family member, and austin 's not a bad driver for only his 2nd year in truck, then aleast 1 year in nationwide.
he'll be ready for cup in 2013.

I'm with you on that. And I don't see anyone with the Earnhardt name that should be in it, since Junior will never drive it again. So Austin is the right kid to put behind the wheel of the 3 car, in my opinion.

I know he is the best driver to be in the #3 car and he will be able to win. As for has brother 2013 to win in the trucks. But Austin will win in 2012 and maybe a championship.

Agreed

I think enough time has passed that the number is no longer viewed as a remembrance of a death but as a tribute to the man that made it iconic.

Austin is already showing that he is deserving of flying the colors and I know that he can continue the tribute.

Austin is becoming one of my favorite drivers, something I haven't considered having for the last 10 years. And that would be regardless of the number on his car. But having him drive the #3 is even better. I just think he's one heck of a wheel man with the right attitude about racing and winning, so far in his career anyway. I just hope all that continues in the future, because I really like him.

I met Richard in July and asked him if we was planning on using the 3 and he said he might use it in nationwide but in cup it's unlikely.

I had a feeling that might be the case. But now we know for sure he's using it in the Nationwide series next year. So he may change his mind about the Cup series too. Time will tell.

When Austin goes to cup he can use the 33 and Dillion is ready he can move to the 31.
