The only standout that really sticks in my mind that is missing is Smokey. If you look under the hood no single man in NASCAR history has had a bigger impact on the way it is.

Ok, Not trying to stir the pot here, but I have an issue with this. If you are going to put a restriction that only 5 PEOPLE per year can get in, shouldn't there be some separation? I know I am only providing another example of "NA_CAR fans are never happy", but here's my issue. There are more than 5 drivers that are on that list that deserve to make it, but at least a few are going to get bumped for the likes of Rick Hendrick (great owner, but can her drive?), Richard Childress (who will make it on the sheer weight of Big E fans voting), and Raymond Parks.

I know without the owners we wouldn't have our sport, but come on. Seriously folks.

One last question, don't all other sports require you to be retired for a specific timeframe before you are eligible??? Rick Hendrick and Richard Childress must be holding off on the press release until they know they get voted in.

I proposed that the first couple of selection years NA__AR devote 80% of the selections to the era beginning with 1948 until 1960. Make it a mix of drivers, mechanics and owners. Have a special selection, above and beyond the designated five, for those who contributed significantly off the track, Ralph Seagrave, Bill France Sr., Cannonball Baker, Clay Earles, Zack Mosley (who gave NASCAR its first nationwide coverage), Harold Brasington, etc., etc.

Because of my above I have a little trouble with people like Childress, Cale, Benny Parsons, DW, Bill Jr. (Personally, I don't think he should ever have a place in the Hall of Fame), Dale Sr. Bobby Allison and Richie Evans on the initial induction list. They all had their moments of glory post 1970.

But those are just my thoughts...

Those are some big names on the list. And they didn't leave any out. That's for darn sure.
