Re: Joey Props

i'll bet that if Tony ''sweetsmellin'' Stewart's team mate, Newman did not run out of gas and won the race, comments on this thread and forum would be a lot different.......again,I say, it has become a love-hate relationship with drivers, not the actual racing, that has become the heartbeat of this forum .............ps...ya beta not say anything bad about Morgan Shepherd either....

Re: Joey Props

lol you can not compare a "stay out it is going to rain" win to a fuel milage win. The person I give props to for Joey's win is Zippy. It was Zippy's call to stay out that put Joey in the lead when the rain came. NOW if there were reports that Zippy kept calling Joey in and he refused them sure Joey can get credit for the win.

Now getting back to a rain win to a fuel mileage win. You cannot compare them. In most cases a driver is not responsible in anyway for a rain win. With fuel mileage it is almost always the driver (unless pit strategy put them there). It is the driver's skill to know when to lift and how to save the fuel that was needed. Pocono and Michigan were prime examples of it. At Pocono we saw what Tony was able to do to stretch it out all the way to the win. At Michigan we saw Mark be able to use his experience and smarts to stretch it just enough to win the race. At both those tracks we saw the like of Jimmy Johnson not be able to keep enough fuel in his tank to go for the win or a decent finish. So atleast with a fuel mileage win the driver is a huge part of it. Not such the case with a rain win. Unless it is the driver who puts himself in the #1 spot for the win.

Re: Joey Props

A long time ago in a far away place, my brother was standing in the winner's circle just having accepted the race trophy and taken the obligatory picture with the race queen when an ardent fan of the #2 driver that day said in a very loud and disgusted voice "You were just lucky!" And my brother grinned, knowing he had beat the #2 to the first turn and stretched his lead to a half lap during the next 250 laps, and said: "Yes ma'am, you're right!"

It makes no difference what the circumstances were that caused any particular driver to be deemed the "Winner". The fact is, that person IS the winner and will remain the winner FOREVER, unless, of course, there was some foul play that caused that result. Luck certainly has a hand in it: running out of gas or not, missing a wreck or not, sliding thru the pit box or not, dropping a lug nut or not, hitting debris on the track or not, and a million other things that some call "luck" are all part of the game.

It doesn't make any difference how slow the winner was. The fact is the winner is still the one who got to the finish line first .. even if the finish line was moved up (rain shortened) or back (green-white-checkered.)

I learned long ago that the best racer was the one who ran SLOW enough to win!

Well said...

Everyone seems to need an excuse to why their driver didn't win

Re: Joey Props

Just curious, if Joey's win wasn't a real win, how will it be listed in the record book?

Re: Joey Props

So, Master Joey's win was due to "Luck," and he "didn't deserve the win?" Do I have that right?

Bob's definition of "Luck" is: "The ability to place yourself in the position to take advantage of opportunities when they are presented to you."

As far as his "deserving" the win, would someone direct me to the place where I can find what the criteria is for a "deserved" win? Exactly who makes the determination as to who is officially deserving and who's not?

I was happy Joey won the race! His crew chief made a good decision on staying out! I know their will be plenty of winning races for Joey!

Re: Joey Props

im really still not sure what all the 'props' are for

he was in first with 38? laps to go

he had JJ, JG, Tony and others chasing him down

most of them wont make a final move until there are less then 3 laps to go

does anyone here really think Joey had more then a 5% chance to win this race if it didnt rain ?

Re: Joey Props

Last I checked it did rain.....

I love the comments of "I could have done it if I had been in the car" and yet you weren't...I wonder why that was?

Good luck getting an answer on that one. I'm still waiting to find out who is the official judge who determined who "deserves" a win and who doesn't.

It's not even about them chasing him down and making a move... They had made pit stops for fuel and he hadn't. IF it hadn't rained, there was almost a 0% chance Joseph would have won.

It did rain, and it rained hard. Joey won. I don't like all the hype over this kid, but he did win, and he won fair and square. (I also didn't get to watch the race, so I don't know how he was running all day, did he have a competitive car or not? If so he deserves it all the more, if not Good Job Zippy!)

Re: Joey Props

Alot has been said about Lagano staying out while others pitted, keep in mind he wasn't "stretching his fuel" he was on a different fuel window due to his earlier mishap in the race.
Congrats to Joey Lagano on his first of possibly many Wins in Cup racing.
Also a Big WTG to Zippy and crew.

As far as being Lucky? I,ve always heard that Luck is being prepared to take advantage of circumstances that come your way.
