Kyle Busch takes swipe at Dale Jr over crew chief change

Kyle Busch said it point-blank: “It’s never Junior; it’s always the crew chief.” Busch fired that opening volley of driver reaction Friday morning to Hendrick Motorsports’ dismissal of Tony Eury Jr. as Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief on Thursday.Asked about Eury’s replacement, Lance McGrew, with whom Busch worked in the Nationwide Series at Hendrick in 2004, Busch expressed pity for McGrew.
“He’s got his hands full, I guess, having to deal with what’s going on,” Busch said. “And if Junior doesn’t run well, then he [McGrew] is going to be the ‘problem’ again.”
Still, Busch said he understood the move to bolster the driver who replaced him at Hendrick last season, both because of Earnhardt’s star power and Busch’s salary issues.
“You’ve got to make the most popular driver in the sport competitive, so you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess,” Busch said.
But Busch added, “He’s the one who brought that crew chief on; he’s the one who pulled so hard to bring Eury Jr. in [along with Earnhardt in his move from Dale Earnhardt Inc.].
“It looked like it was working there in the beginning,” Busch continued, “and it just hasn’t worked since the summer of last year, really. So, whatever makes them better, I guess.”

Dale Jr responds to Kyle Busch’s comments

ARE YOU SURPRISED ABOUT KYLE BUSCH’S COMMENTS EARLIER TODAY ABOUT YOUR CREW CHIEF SITUATION?: “Not really, that doesn’t really surprise me what Kyle (Busch) says. He’s always had a chip on his shoulder for me. I expect anytime he gets an opportunity to throw a jab in there he’s going to do it. That’s just his personality. We’re working toward trying to figure out how we can make our deal work and that has nothing to do with Kyle (Busch). We’ll see how this weekend goes and then move forward next week.”

Re: Kyle Busch takes swipe at Dale Jr over crew chief change

Jr is right when he said it has nothing to do with Kyle. So why don't Jr tell the media to quit asking everyone what they think about it? I keep waiting for one of them to say, " not my team, not my crew chief, so why should I care what they do over there", but so far I don't guess anyone has.
But Kyle is also right in the fact that it is always someone elses fault. Like I said in the other thread, when he was at DEI it was Teresas fault if anything went wrong. So he leaves there and goes to the "best" equipment there is and he still ain't doing much ( not even as good as he did at DEI ).So now it's Eury Jr's fault. When he don't win in the next few races it'll be this CC's fault, and so on and so on.
Now that being said, he's still my favorite driver and will remain so. But I think he needs to admit, as does Rick, he's a good driver but he's not a great one and he never will be. He'll never do the same as JJ and JG.

Re: Kyle Busch takes swipe at Dale Jr over crew chief change

I think that bush is still mad Dale Jr took over his his old car and team !! Jr may have had one his better runs of this season at Dover. Hopefuly the team and Jr can and I think they will build on this. He has won about 17 races so he can win.I also have a question for you how come the 24-5-48 run basically the same setup? Jr did not have that chance because he does not set up the car.

When they talk to other people it's always somebody elses fault. When they talk to Jr. I think he carries the blame pretty well on his own shoulders.

Cranial / rectal inversion. That's what Kyle had.

Actually, I'm loving this bickering between Shrub and Junior. It makes watching NASCAR more fun, and gives me somebody to root against.

I'm completely on your side with this one, Mike. In the past three years Junior has been pretty good about taking responsibility. It's the media and some of his more zealous fans which make Junior appear to be something he really isn't.

The thing that struck me, maybe it did others, was the fact that the guy criticizing Junior here is the same kid who is garrulous as Hell when he wins but let him lose a race and he's nowhere to be found for an interview? I respect the Hell out of his desire to win and his type of driving is what the sport needs today. But I would hate to see Kyle Busch win a championship and be the sport's representative. Pouty, bratty little kids we don't need. For him, of all people, to make a critical statement about Junior responsibility, is just...? silly.

Seems like there's a lot more writers and commentators who are starting to say the same thing. Even Mike Joy ripped into Kyle yesterday during the race coverage about that, which surprised me. You could tell it completely burst DW's "I Love Kyle Busch" balloon. To quote Mike Bagley on Sirius this morning, "it is time for Kyle to put his big boy panties on and give a comment after a race when it doesn't go well."

I heard that too and was surprised. My guess is that if it wasn't the last show of the season Mike might have held his tongue a bit.

I repeat, I admire the Hell out of Kyle's competitive attitude and his obvious desire to win. If Cup started a field in which 50% of the drivers drove with Kyle's enthusiasm, that would go a long way toward making the races actually exciting. But bratty little kids who act like they just missed the winning basket in a high school game, and no one has offered them a Life Saver... I don't like that attitude in kids and I sure as Hell don't care for it in professional figures! It just underscores my feeling that 21 could be the absolute minimum age for a kid to start a Cup race but 25 would probably be a lot better. You can smack a doofus like Jimmy Spencer around and it'd be called a fight. Hit a kid like Kyle and people'd scream "Child Abuse!"

I think jr. had more respect for his CC this weekend. I believe he lost confidence and respect for eury jr.

well see how things go the next couple of races

Re: Kyle Busch takes swipe at Dale Jr over crew chief change

I have always thought that ole D.W. was trying to polish the turd when it comes to Kyle Busch's reputation is concerned.

Darrell was not that popular back in the day, and now he's trying to get folks to like Kyle. But I think it's only working with Kyle's core fan group. It ain't reaching out that much. Sorry, D.W.
