Kyle vs. Junior

I found this posted Elsewhere and while I don't agree with the authors style, I wonder, If you owned a 4 car team with the best equipment, and you just hired Chad Knaus as your crew chief, which driver would you rather have in your car....Junior or Kyle?

(BTW) I already challenged the author on the remark about Kyle telling MR.Hendrick to get rid of Kyle and he had no resources to back it up, however I did not want to alter the content of his message or how it was conveyed.)

Kyle Busch 25 wins (9 Cup, 11 Nationwide and 5 in Truck)
Dale Earnhardt Jr 1 fuel mileage Cup win

I give Junior Nation props, you guys are like Mikey fans, both your drivers are overrated, and you can still be fans even though they don't win, that is loyalty, which is admirable. Junior said to Rick Hendrick in private he would not come to Hendrick if Kyle was with the organization, and that is why Hendrick kept Casey Mears, and fired Kyle Busch, because Junior can't stand Kyle. Little baby Junior got his way, and Kyle Busch got the best end of the deal. Junior is at best the #3 driver at Hendrick, and I think he is actually #4, because Mark Martin is much better, and Kyle is the Alpha Dog at Gibbs. Kyle Busch was #26 in souvenir sales following the 2007 season, and he is now up to #5 if you don't count the Intimidator. I listen to Sirius NASCAR radio everyday, and there are a bunch of people like myself who were fans of the Intimdator, and never really got into Dale Jr, because he is way too soft, and Kyle drives alot like Dale Earnhardt, and will give 100% to win every time out.

I had to go with Kyle. He is the better driver of the 2.

Re: Kyle vs. Junior

I guess it depends...is your goal to sell merchandise or win races?

If you're interested in winning races/championships...it's Kyle hands down.

Kyle by a mile. He is a very good driver. Junior only thinks he is a very good driver.

I'm not sure about that.

Last year, Jr posted a 2008 season driver rating that was 4th overall. So statistically speaking, he's pretty damn good.

It's worth noting, though, that of the top 10 drivers on the Driver rating scale, Jr. was the only one [edit: make that one of two, thanks to clint bowyer] that didn't actually finish in the top 10 in points for the season.

This season, Jr's rating puts him at 15th so far, more in line with how he actually finished last year. I would suspect that will only go up based on last year's numbers, but we'll see.

I voted Kyle though... I don't hate on the Jr, I just fail to see how he doesn't win more races when he appears to drive so well.

Re: Kyle vs. Junior

Kyle by far, I want to win, he's a great driver, he kind of reminds of Ricky Bobby, I picture him driving past the checkflag and yelling "Momma, I'm going fast" Then in his interview's he comes off like a likable guy, Junior seems kind of depressed lately and doesn't win, why would I want him?

I suspect they are both very interested in winning races & championships. Dale has 2 Nationwide championships and Kyle has one. I don't think that shows a lack of desire on Kyle's part. I still believe that Jr surrounds himself with the wrong people. When he rids himself of Tony Jr I think his value will increase.

Will that stop him from making bonehead mistakes on the track?

We'll never know until he rids himself of Tony Jr. But, in my estimation, I think it will go a long way toward Junior's making fewer mistakes. If there is someone who doesn't treat him like he's The Golden Child, and will jump right in the middle of his forehead and do a tap dance, he might actually THINK about what he's doing?

Success is often all about discipline. I'm just not sure if Junior has the ability to self discipline but rather needs someone to instill discipline on him. Obviously Tony lives more in fear of Junior than of command, which, in many ways is a crew chief's responsibility.

Re: Kyle vs. Junior

Kyle's already shown more raw talent than we've seen in NASCAR in years and years and now the Shrub seems to have developed the focus that comes with weathering the storm and is quickly gaining the experience to know what to do when. once he learns how to "see the air", there won't be anyone who can top him...

meanwhile, DEJ is still mired in trying to prove he's worth what they pay him (and doing it pretty badly .. that is if his job is race car driver.) the 34 year old "kid" is still not wanting to be on his own, has to keep his security blanket with him. (ya know he's still a kid when you look at what he does for recreation: buys bars and builds western towns and kart tracks in his back yard!) his dad had his hunting and fishing relax with, but that's not for everyone and obviously not one of his son's faves either. still, when he gives up the blanket, starts acting like a 30 something and focuses on doing what he knows he can do, not what others (including his sister and his boss) tell him he should do, he might become a good racer. 'till then he's just a rich kid dabbling in fun, but without the "joy" of doing it well. he showed some talent years back, before his dad died, but it's been slowly covered up with his arrogance and boneheaded miscues. I'm beginning to think his step mom is right about him.

Maybe Junior needs a wife, a child or two and a mortgage? Speaking from personal experience, nothing will grow a boy up quicker than having those things to come home to each night.

I could not agree more. Junior has never grown up. He is just a rich kid that got some great rides because of daddy. His skills are definately on the decline. He obviously does not want any part of responsibility.

I keep confusing Bob Tanner with the Rubberduck guy, and I just looked at your total post, and they are eerily close in number....
