| Thoughts on Jeremy Mayfield. I don't want to go on a rant here, but... Jeremy's never done a thing to me and I'm pretty sure he's a nice guy, but I just have never been impressed by him, nor have I ever liked him, as a driver. He just kind of "showed up" in NASCAR after a pretty good ARCA season (his ONLY ARCA season, as a matter of fact). Jeffie-Pooh was showing extreme potential and in mid-year, Cale Yarborough was desperate and thought Jeremy just might be the next Jeffie and took a flyer on him. Now, like the brother-in-law who moves in "just till things improve," it looks like we're stuck with him. My first complaint about Mayfield is his place of birth, Owensboro, KY. Kentucky is a great place and I love it, but this little corner of paradise (Owensboro) is also home of NASCAR's most consummate whiner, Jeff Green. Plus, it's also where the rock lies that Mikey was found under. Note to EPA: There must be something in that part of the Ohio River which causes this? Do the world a favor and check it out, please. Second is something that is none of my business, but public figures are prone to suffer unjust scrutiny. Whoever said life is fair, anyway? When Jeremy came on the scene in 1994 he had a wife named Christina. Now Christina looked like your basic girl who married her childhood sweetheart. She was attractive but no trophy wife. She looked as though she might have been a size 8 plus she had tall hair. Then our boy Jeremy started doing commercials and media stuff after going to Everham and suddenly <poof!> Christina was history and Jeremy was the happy bachelor. Now Mayfield's wed to some stone-solid-little-home-wrecker named Shawna, Shanna, Sheena, or something like that who looks like she came off the shelf at Bimbos-R-Us. Though I generally don't approve of it, there is nothing wrong nor evil about divorce. But, in our boy Jeremy's case, it smacks of "I just outgrew you because now I've made it to the big time." I could be wrong about this conclusion, but, it just doesn't feel right to me. Last, it's Jeremy's breakup with Everham. As Casey Stenkle (or was it Yogi Berra?) said, "Deja vu, all over again." It seems as though Mayfield has a problem with self-importance and believes that he should be the top banana. Playing second fiddle to Rusty in the #12 Mobile car wasn't to his liking and he threw a little hissy fit and departed mid-season. Now, he's obviously not Ray's first-tier team and here we go again. Mid-season and Jeremy's out of a ride again. If I were Ray, I'd have benched Jeremy after his public whining session a month ago! Casey Atwood is still owed a ride by Everham. No, Mayfield has never been one of my favourites and hope He goes with Mikey and not Bill Davis. Actually, I think there is a short track just south of Owensboro, just off the by-pass (Kentucky Speedway I believe it's called) that is calling, "Jeremy...come home!"

| Re: Thoughts on Jeremy Mayfield. Hey Bob, It's OK with me, you can rant all you want when you start a thread. It is what gets a dicussion flowing. With so many threads on the NASCAR board, you need to show some personal insight to some of the happenings. Bravo to you for taking the courage to make a statement!

As most here have figured out by now, I'm a very shy and retiring guy. One of these days I'll find a way out of my shell and find the courage to let my actual feeling be known. <g> |

"Second is something that is none of my business, but public figures are prone to suffer unjust scrutiny" I understand your statement and I totally agree with everything in your statement. However, I took the liberty to insert my initial statement in the Mayfield appraisal. What I said was obviously none of my business and could very well be completely unfair, but I stand by my disclaimer. Believe me, I'm in your corner on this one. However I was careful to may sure the disclaimer was in the paragraph and I believe I never stated it as fact, only an observation and an opinion. |

| Re: Thoughts on Jeremy Mayfield. Hello everyone, this is only my 2nd day here so I guess i'm joining late. But I feel that Jeremy's boss may have treated him unfairly. Just my opinion. Thanks. But on the other hand...in the real world we would be canned, out on our butt if we talked bad about our boss. |

| Re: Thoughts on Jeremy Mayfield. Personally i dont think much of mayfield. hes a bit overated but still has some driving skill. he made it to the chase 2 years but never did anything while he was in teh chase. to me he is an average driver but i also dont like his attitude, especially after he complained and whined on how his situation was with Evernham. |
