| Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer & Carl Edwards While most of us think Tony could have done things a little different at Pocono, I've heard almost no comments about Clint Bowyer & Carl Edwards. We know that Tony's always been a passionate guy. Call is an anger problem or call it an edge, we all know that he's as competitive as they come. And we all know that he's got more raw driving skill than just about anyone. Where was Boyer's spotter when Tony got run into the wall? I think there's a case to made that he's the one guy who really started the whole mess. And what's a guy to do when he gets run into the wall at 180 mph? I'd say you're pretty pumped up at that point if you're the driver. Hindsight or a nice seat on the couch might make us come up with a different reaction but Tony getting into Boyer wasn't a big surprise. It was a reaction in the heat of the moment. If you've watched the replay, it wasn't a huge bump. I don't think Smoke intended to start a wreck. A stronger driver might have been able to take it but Boyer wiped out. It sucks for Carl Edwards that he got into the mess. At that point, he was an innocent guy that got screwed. No doubt I would be ☻☻☻☻ed at Smoke & Boyer at that point if I was in his shoes. But then Carl did something stupid. He plotted and stewed for 35 laps. 35 laps! And then spins Smoke on pit road. C'mon Carl. You got screwed but you were on the way to recovering. But you took retaliation that you KNEW would get you black flagged. And you did it on PIT ROAD for God's sake! I can sympathize that Carl wanted to strike back at somebody but that was just the biggest bonehead move I've seen all year. Way worse than Gordon's Darth Vader shove of Matt Kenseth at Bristol. Gordon stayed mad for less time (4 laps vs 35 laps) in a much hotter situation (chance to win with 4 laps to go vs Edwards middle of the pack situation) but Gordon didn't do something stupid. Talk about who's self destructing, that's Carl Edwards. I really liked Carl Edwards pretty well before this race but he's the guy who came out worst. He hurt himself, his team, his sponsors & his fans by not keeping a level head. And by not cooling off any in span of 35 laps! It's easy to understand and even partially excuse Smoke's fiery reaction 5 seconds after the incident. It's impossible for me to say that Carl Edwards acted like a champion with his premeditated, dangerous retaliation.

| Re: Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer & Carl Edwards My biggest issue is that Tony has done this before and I'd be willing to bet my next winning Coke bottle cap that he will do it again. Most everyone in the know will tell you that Tony has an anger management problem. Did it happen in the heat of the moment ?? Yes it did, but that isn't an acceptable excuse for intentionally driving into another driver. I won't agrue as to whether or not Bowyer could have kept control of his car. At 150 plus MPH's who knows what happens when someone runs into the side of you. At 180 on the straightaway, just getting close to someones bumper can cause them to lose control. I'd have to look at the incident again but I don't think Bowyer hit Tony, forcing him into the wall. Tony being the self proclaimed "Veteran" driver that he is should have been better prepared for the event. What he did do was to cut into Tony's space and the veteran driver lost control and hit the wall. Then the unacceptable anger issue reared its ugly head. I've said it before and I'll continue to say it ... at 150 plus MPH's you cannot use your car for retaliation. Tony did that. No question. As a driver I like Carl Edwards. As for what he did in the pits that once again is totally unacceptable. It obviously was not in the heat of the moment, or at least not the same way it was with Tony. Possibly the fact that Carl was directly behind Tony on the way to the pits allowed Carl to engage in the heat of the moment. Again that is no excuse for what he did. He did in fact suffer for what he did and I'm sure the sponsors let the team know of their displeasure. Thank God we are allowed opinions. In respect to what is a bonehead move I would disgree with you. It was a bonehead move that Carl made but I still feel the biggest bonehead move was by Tony in Daytona. For me he erased any idea that he had his anger under control. Since then, on more than one occassion he has proven that he can talk one story but cannot actually practice what he preaches. I guess that is what fans are all about. I will always enjoy his passion but never like his attitude. |

| Re: Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer & Carl Edwards Boy how I am beginning to hate the Tony Stewart subject matter ... none the less "Damage Control" is a farce. If this had been a one time occurrence damage control might have been the solution. An apology along with some lame type of explaination may have done the job as it has for others. The issue is he continues to do the very poor job of saying he is sorry, saying how everyone must do a better job at safety and respecting other drivers but he seems to fall short of his own goals. I really believe that the only way Tony will change is to hurt him where it hurts the most. Obviously a $50K fine and sitting in the pits for a lap doesn't do the trick. Take major points from him, the team and the manufacturer. When I say major points I mean just that. Remove the possibility of getting into the chase, be on probation and be aware that any othe infractions will only lead to stiffer penalties. For those who think I want Tony out please understand that "I" feel this is the approach NA$CAR needs to take to get this type of driving under control. When they continue to allow this to happen they are just re-enforcing to the teams that for the most part this WWF type of racing will be OK. Just my opinion ! |
