Re: Bobby Labonte to Drive the #41 Target Chevrolet

I'm not too happy about this either. I am sure ask.com his his sponsor and he was shopping them around to different teams. I am sure Rousch and Yates ears perked up pretty quickly.

As far as Bobby's performance I am not too worried if he gets the same stuff Yates gets. If Kvapil and Gilliland can drive those cars to the front I am sure Bobby can do the same.

Seems this thread is now "off topic"

Probably need to jump over to the "Labonte will drive the #96 DLP Ford" thread...

here's the link (in case you're interested) Labonte will drive No. 96

Bobby labonte is NOT going to drive the 41. He is going to drive the HOF #96 Ford. I wish people would wait until announcements are made, all this speculation is dumb.

Welcome to GTG, hope that you decide to register with us. If you go back to the original post you will see that it was made on 12/16, when that was the "original" rumor. So, I'd say it was following the story, not speculation.

As much as I'm a fan of Kyle Petty and Petty Enterprises, I still fell that Bobby will have a much better chance driving for another team. Bobby still has some wins in him. He just has to get the right equipment, and the the right people to make that happen.

well i think he's with the right team right now and i believe the reason he chose to race with yates and hof racing is because he wants to help them improve like he was with petty inerprises and this time i believe it will work out because the team is trying really hard to compete again and labonte is racing with some pretty good equipment in my opinion.

Re: Bobby Labonte to Drive the #41 Target Chevrolet

No doubt that the Roush equipment is a whole lot better than the GEM stuff PE was getting.

Does anyone know how long did Bobby sign with Yates/HOF? If it is a one year contract maybe Bobby is looking at them as a stepping stone. Knowing that the Roush power can get him up front. So if he has a strong top 15 finish in points maybe a team like RCR will come knocking if say Mears starts struggling to make races.

The way it sounds was Bobby was ready to join RCR with Kellogs as the sponsor, then at the last moment he resigned with Petty. That may not be exactly the way it went down, just the way it sounds. Now the chances are if that's true, then most teams had their drivers set for 2009 at the time of Bobby's release from Petty. Cause if he was released any earlier he could have possibly joined another big team. HOF was probably the only path he had pop up for 2009 with the timing of his release.

Oh no doubt I blame Bobby for this and I am sure he blames him self. The rumors at the time were that General Mills wanted him to follow them the RCR. The rumors at the time were that Childress wanted Bobby also. So it the rumors were true Bobby did this to himself and I am sure he is kicking his own butt right now.

No doubt though will drivers like Mears and Sorenson be on a very short leesh this year. So if Mears starts struggling to make races this year there is a good chance Bobby's name could service for that ride again. Especially if he has a cheap buyout at HOF or only signed for one year.
