Latest test at Indianapolis shows improved tire wear

INDIANAPOLIS -- Goodyear and NASCAR officials say tire wear has improved significantly during this week's testing at Indianapolis.
This is the second test conducted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since July's Allstate 400 turned into a series of 10- to 12-lap sprints because the tires wore out.
NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said on Tuesday that cars in the tests were running at least 20 laps on Goodyear's new tires, built using a compound similar to that used during the second race at Dover this year.
Pemberton also did not appear overly concerned about tire problems during Sunday's race at Talladega. Several drivers had blowouts during the race, which Pemberton attributed primarily to punctures.

WOW! 20 laps on a set of tires! Pardon me if I seem underwhelmed. Wasn't excessive tire wear one of the many justifications they used for dumping Rockingham?

How's this for a test project... Take a current Cup Lite car and throw it out on the Brickyard with the current Cup tire compound and see if the wear is the same. My bet is that there is some principle where the current new race car, the track surface and the car itself just do not mix. It just seems odd that this was the first year with the new race car and the first year they've had tire problems of this magnitude. I don't believe in coincidence.

Coincidence... hmmmmm I've heard of this phenomenon.... I think it runs rampad with NA$CAR

Let's not touch the Rockingham subject right now Bob(not that I'm disagreeing). Be careful what you say about Brains' precious little car. Next thing you know you look outside and see the hauler with Helton holdin a gallon of France-aid and Pemberton a glass.

My guess is they say it's fixed, then we have another fiasco. We'll get the the usual game of pass-the-buck.

I wish NASCAR would just leave INDY...... They have never had a good race there....It doesn't work. I'd rather see them take that date and go to KY. or Iowa.

Re: Latest test at Indianapolis shows improved tire wear

i've actually passed out during the middle of several Bickyard 400s due the the fun before the race and the lack of it on the racetrack.
