Re: Montoya Time Disallowed

Ability/permission to "edit" not available so repost with correction/edit follows:

JPM has done less than expected for some (many/most?) in NASCAR. Reason? Open to opinion and speculation.

One thought/question now is wondering if the way to previous successes has been only when a "cheat" has been slipped by the inspectors in any/all of his other endeavors.

Be surprised if that were true/so, but cannot really know.

Since they've always done it that way, I'm lost on why they're not doing it that way this race.
This is a different situation, as Montoya's time was disallowed in post-qualifying inspection and he is officially listed as 42nd on the grid. You're thinking of the situation in which changes are made to the car between qualifying and the race that are not allowed. In that case, Montoya would still have been listed as qualifying 1st and only the inside line would have moved forward.

But at the road course where Jeff(?) failed post qualifying inspection, he had to go to the back and only his row moved up. I was just wondering why the difference for the same thing.

If you're thinking of Infineon Raceway in 2007, the unapproved modifications were discovered before qualifying and both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson didn't even get to qualify. They started 41st and 42nd, officially. Jamie McMurray was the fastest qualifier for that race.

I can't think of another road course race in which somebody's time was disallowed.
