A lot of drivers leave teams, such as Ryan Newman leaving Penske for SHR A lot of sponsors leave teams for others such as General Mills leaving Petty for RCR or UPS leaving MWR for Roush. It's no different at DEI. |

| Re: Newman in the Army? Burger king would have been great for both Newman and Stewart. Imagine those commercials. With both of those chubbys walking into the BK lounge?! As for the Army.... I just don't get it! Just like Mark Martin with the Army sponsorship... He is way too old too be recruited for the Army. I mean at least get someone that resembles the market you target. Ryan Newman, like Mark Martin looks nothing like GI Joe. At least "The Sarge" (Regarldless of age) Looks like he could serve. As a veteran The choice of Newman makes me shake my head. I'd rather have Reed Sorenson or Brad Keslowski represent my branch! At least they could actually serve..... Better yet, if you are not a vet... no sponsorship from the military!!! If this was the case Chase Miller or Chad Mccumbee would be serving right now under a driver development deal! |

UPDATE: sources said Army is close to finalizing a deal to be a partial co-sponsor of Ryan Newman's [#39 Chevy] car at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2009.(ESPN.com)(9-12-200 UPDATE: Sources close to the situation confirmed today that the U.S. Army would not be renewing their sponsorship with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. after the 2008 season. Representatives from the U.S. Army let Dale Earnhardt, Inc. know this afternoon that they would not be returning to the #8 for 2009. Beginning in 2009 the U.S. Army will be the primary sponsor of Ryan Newman in the newly formed Stewart-HAAS Racing venture led by two-time Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart. The formal announcement will be delivered at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Friday October 10th when Stewart-HAAS Racing and the U.S. Army unveil Newman’s new #39 racecar. Sources also said that representatives from the U.S. Army have asked Dale Earnhardt, Inc. for permission to make the announcement, and that the U.S. Army did not have an interest in negotiating with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. about future opportunities.(Captain Thunder Racing)(9-30-200 |
