Re: Jeff Gordon's just plain awesome

WOW ... I just posted on the Hate Gordon thread about how the bashing was getting a bit old and even carried away and now I see you have created the opposite thread. Congrats for sticking up for your driver. He isn't my #1 choice but with 4 championships to his credit he must be doing something right.

Re: Jeff Gordon's just plain awesome

Not a great day for the Dupont Machine team, we started awesome, up near the front, knocking for the lead. Then it turned around when 1/2 decided to go to pit road under caution, Gordon and many other decided to pit on the next caustion putting about 15 of them around the 20's, thats when our day ended. We CAN NOT run well in traffic. As the day went on we were picking guys off every 20 laps but 90% of the time the cars behind us were faster. With about 70 laos to go Jeff said he had NO brakes entering turn 1, the team decided to ride it out to the finish. Jeff was running in the 17th position when going about 200mph Jeff planted his foot on the brake pedal and NOTHING, Jeff turned the wheel as hard as he can to the left and the car ran up the track and completely destroyed the car. Jeff was OK as he climbed out of the pile of junk and checked his rotors to dignose the problem. But whats aggrevating me is the fan treatment Jeff got after the wreck, he was cheered. Thats wrong, I dont like Tony or Kurt at all but if they had a vicious wreck like that the last thing i'd do is cheer, but that shows that theres still pathetic fans in this sport who find it funny to cheer when someone take a vicious crash like that and put their life on the line like that. This season is looking wost and worst every race but as a Gordon fan I can't give up, Jeff may have won his last championship but as a Red Sox fan, I have gone through worst. Thank god Jeff is alright.

Re: Jeff Gordon's just plain awesome

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Something is missing from the team effort right now. Granted yesterday was probably a mechanical problem that could not be avoided but none the less I still think something is missing on his team. You don't win 4 championships and then just fall out of contention for no reason. Could it be the driver ???? Maybe. Could it be the shock tech ??? Maybe. Could be any number of reasons. All teams go through this and most of the good ones are strong enough to bounce back at some point. It did take the Red Sox 86 years so hopefully Hendricks can find a resolution before that much time goes by. Hang in there Dupont.

Re: Jeff Gordon's just plain awesome

Usually the crowd cheers when a possibly injured driver (any athlete) walks away from an incident......that I can see. But to cheer because someone is in danger, before the staus of their well being is known is a rough crowd....very typical of Philadelphia fans and I am sure there were alot of them there.

And don't give me grief for coming down on Phila fans....I should know, I was one.

Am glad he is safe, an able to participate in future races...wouldn't be the same w/o Gordo.......

Re: Jeff Gordon's just plain awesome

Whether we like it or not there will always be those atheltes that are boo'ed. From my point of view he is boo'ed because of his success. Success against all the other drivers from a young and new driver who came into the sport and got the best of everything. Fans take it personally when "my driver" gets his butt kicked by some relative unknown to the sport. Now that Jeff is in a slump we can "hip hip hoooray " him for his bad luck because that means that "our driver" has a better chance. It is just our nature to be that way. When Dale Sr. got into the Daytona accident you can be assured that there were people cheering at the fact that he wouldn't finish the race. When they found out about the end result I'm confident that they all felt bad that the sport had lost a leader. Like it or not Gordon is a leader in our sport. He is as good a representative as Richard Petty is. He will be in the NASCAR hall of fame when his turn comes. I don't advocate that all the fans of other teams/drivers should have Gordon as their favorite (he isn't my favorite) but you cannot deny his success and what he and Hendricks have done in a positive light for the sport of racing. If you've never heard the name Jeff Gordon then you really know nothing about NASCAR and probably very little in general about auto racing.

Re: Jeff Gordon's just plain awesome

It was good to see he wasn't hurt and able to walk away. I don't like Gordon, but I don't want any driver hurt. I want to say that I know that Gordon fans take alot of "grief" for their choice of driver. Unfortunately, most Gordon fans do take it personally, you guys seem to shrug it off for the most part, which is good. I don't care if somebody likes Gordon, as I said before, somebody has to like him. I know several Gordon fans, one of which happens to be my dad!! Never, ever is any of my Gordon bashing aimed at his fans, only at him. Please, don't take it personally it is never meant to be taken that way.

What's up with this, Gotham, jumping on the Gordon bandwagon!! What, now that Yates is hitting a bad patch on the track, you run to the competition?!?! Wow, I didn't realize that you might be flighty, being the Blue Jackets cheerleader, oops, I mean promotor. That's o.k., you go ahead and jump on that bandwagon, but don't come running back to Yates with your cape between your legs when the going gets tuff. Not to worry, we'll take you back when you realize the colors on the car aren't brighter from the other side.

Re: Jeff Gordon's just plain awesome

i am not a big fan of JG. But if you like him i wont have a problem with it.
No offence but i was glad he ended up having a bad day, it helped me with my fatansay pick. But i am really really glad he did get hurt. He took a really really really hard hit.

Well, they were probably cheering that he was okay, that he wasn't hurt! Oh, also, what's with your huge title? Did you win this week?
Edit: Oops, I didn't do the first unread thing and someone already said what I said. So...I second that!

Easy Yatesy .... we're supposed to be fan friendly here. Even if it is to an admitted "I know nothing about NASCAR" fan.
