I was watching Nascar Now yesterday and Marty Smith was behind the scenes at JGR and they started with the beginning of JGR and who drove for them, DJ and Bobby. Why did he leave? Bobby won a championship with Joe Gibbs. I really like Bobby but he seems to be stuck in a rut at Petty. Not very competetive. I am hoping the new investor Petty can be a force to reckon with. Plus does Petty even have a sponsor for Bobby's car?? I was really surprised the Bobby re-signed with Petty. Could Bobby be planning to retire soon and that is why he stayed at Petty? What do you think?

petty offered him a contract that he would retire with and richard childress offered him like a 2 year contract which is risky cus when the two years is up and rcr dont want to resign him than he might not have a ride anymore and end up retiring before he wanted to and its just less pressure on him at petty interprises the expectations arent very high and he has ride that he knows he wont lose and as far as sponsorship goes they have nothing to worry about king petty can get a bunch of sponsor offers for the 43 car

I think Bobby left because JGR wanted a younger driver in the 18, that was about the time the 'young guns ' came into cup and JG wanted to be part of it. I may be way off here, but I don't think they (JGR) really tried to resign Bobby

In my opinion Bobby likes to be where he is really wanted and needed. So many teams (and companies) don't want people around when they are on the (down) side of their life.

I think a lot of it had to do with JGR firing Fatback Mcswain. They had a good run, and I think that it hurt him personally. The thing was, when that happened, Bobby was 4th in the points. He hasn't run well since.
