Re: Daugherty is NASCAR's most visible black man

Getting back to Daugherty:

This Moss guy might be more famous but I just picked this up from Daugherty's bio. It shows a long-time dedication to the sport which I don't recall hearing anything approximating it in Moss'es background:
A five-time NBA All-Star in eight seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected him as the No. 1 pick in the 1986 draft, Brad Daugherty joined ESPN in 2007 as an analyst for NASCAR Now and NASCAR Countdown. A follower of NASCAR since his childhood, his #43 jersey was chosen in honor of Richard Petty. Daugherty also spent time as a winning NASCAR Nationwide Series and Craftsman Truck Series team owner with drivers Robert Pressley, Kenny Irwin Jr. and others. Pressley won a Nationwide Series race in 1989 in a car owned by Daugherty while Irwin won two Truck Series races for Daugherty in 1997. Daugherty previously served as a college basketball game sideline reporter and analyst for ESPN and ABC.

I don't care if he's black, white or purple, this, to me, represents the type of car owner NASCAR desperately needs. I'll take him over Staubach or Kauffman anyday.

sorry Bob, but i feel you are just making my point for me

I see Moss as a black man better for NASCAR then Daugherty only due to the fact that just as you dont know who Moss is, many people that do know who Moss is dont follow NASCAR ..... i believe Moss can bring more minority fans to the sport due to that fact

just my opinion of course

I sure would hope most people know who Daugherty is! Damn fine center for the Cavaliers in his heyday. Five time NBA All-Star, 10,000 career points and 5,000 rebounds. Up until March of this year, he was Cleveland's all-time leading scorer, and who knows what he could've done had he not been forced to retire so young!

I would say both are good for the sport for different reasons. Moss because, as you said, he's a football mega star. He relates to the new crowd. Daugherty is great because he clearly has the racing background and traditional NASCAR past that we haven't seen come around since, I don't know... the Wood Brothers. Plus, Moss is down in the truck series, which alot of us here love, but isn't on the same stage as Cup to most others.

And about Moss truly being involved and dedicated to this, I'm not buying yet. I don't see how he can be. He'll be in the middle of the NFL season before long, and he kept David Dollar around, the one who ran the program to begin with.

There was some sarcasm in that statement. It was more a joke about rusty's commentary than actual knowledge. Just a joke. I don't want anyone to think I was serious. He is a knowlegable person. He is a former official, and former/current team owner. Obviously he doesn't know it from the drivers view.

To be brutally honest I doubt if the type of people Moss might draw to the would be a positive. Just more stick&ball retreads who will promote even more changes to auto racing so that they can more easily equate it to S&B. (Playoffs and "team" concept are two bastardizations which immediate come to my mind)

Plus, also to be brutally honest, I don't give a darn about political correctness, cultural diversity or minority involvement unless it positively affects the racing. If it does that then I'm all for it. But, if all Moss will do is put new butts in the seats... Phhhhhhffffttttt!!!!!!!!!

...and, of course, this one is the way I, alone, feel.

Moss "seems" to have a genuine love for NASCAR. We'll see if that enthusiasm holds up, but he may yet be a great owner.

seems to me to be genuine, grew up a country boy in WV, talks like he belongs in Nascar (couuuuuuuuuntry!!). Brad daugherty, to me, isn't a black man in Nascar, he is a race fan in Nascar, just very tall!

His move should be a big step forward for NASCAR's diversity program. Diversity in NASCAR

"Drivers of color" - What eactly does that mean?

Politically Incorrect - "Colored Drivers"
(What does NAACP stand for?)

Politically Correct - "Drivers of Color"

I just don't get it?

As far as diversity in NASCAR goes; just for the sake of diversity, I don't care for it, but now if you can drive like the Spint Cup drivers, I don't care if your a character out of a Star Wars bar scene, I just wanna see great racing!

BINGO!!!!!

I don't care what your race/creed/religion/gender or sexual preference is, if you're coming into NASCAR to make the racing better, welcome aboard.

If you're coming to NA__AR to make some sort of social statement, create a new image for yourself, put new butts in the seats because of your race/ religion/creed/gender/sexual preference, or some other reason which doesn't improve the racing, then stay the Hell home.

With me, it's just a simple as that. Like kcoruol, all I want to see is good racing.
