Racing nicknames

In racing, fans, drivers, and the media have created some cool nick names and some bad nicknames for drivers. So I ask you all, what are your favorite racing nicknames. Give the nickname and the driver. Oh and please don't post the same thing as 50 ather people do. There are a few that everyone likes but please dont post it more than a couple of times.

Re: Racing nicknames

I'll go ahead and give mine. I much perfer rowdy for kyle busch over wild thing. That was a good movie. And I also like the kid for Gordon back in the day. I hated the rainbow warrior and wonderboy was okay. Big Daddy is kind of funny to me.

Re: Racing nicknames

I can't think of all the ones I used to hear. There was a name for everyone it seemed like. Many of today's fans know yesterday's driver by their nicknames only. Like Truman "Fonty" Flock, Robert "Red" Byron, Glen "Fireball" Roberts, Clifton "Coo Coo" Marlin...

My personal favorites are Super Tex for AJ Foyt and of course, the Silver Fox.

How about "Tiger" Tom Pistone? Henry "Butch" Miller (ROY 1990), How about a complete name change? Two that I can think of: J.D. Hayes (let's not go into THAT name change, shall we?), and ... I'll leave this one as a Trivia question.. See Name Change. Let's not leave out Dewayne Louis "Tiny" Lund. Remember Rufus Parnell "Parnelli" Jones? Probably no one but me has ever heard of Lewis V. "Possum" Jones from Mango, FL? (He had 3 second place finishes in NASCAR GN)

Charles lewis "Red" Farmer
Robert Glenn "Junior" Johnson

Two of my favourite names weren't nicknames at all but rather given birth names: Snuffy Smith (ran one race in 1953) and Goober Sosebee.

I like nicknames.

I like nicknames.
Of course, Gober had a pretty good nickname on top of that unique birth name. He was a little before my time but I believe he known as The Wild Injun for a while. I can't imagine that one being as kindly accepted today.

Re: Racing nicknames

Front Row Joe and Cousin Carl are good ones that are comical. Man if you want down right cool, Smoke and the Intimidator. Also if Ky. Busch is going to have a nickname how about Titty Sack. Kidding, Kidding.......Rowdy is better than Wild Thing or Shrub. Those last two are dumb.

Re: Racing nicknames

I was telling my wife the other day that "Petty Enterprises" is so fitting. Now I like Richard and all of them, but they're pretty "Petty."

Re: Racing nicknames

I never have gotten the "Rowdy Busch" thing. I know he painted the truck like the car and the whole 51 thing but Rowdy actually took care of his car. Now on the other hand Cole Trickle drove like a bat out of hell and hit the wall in every turn. My favorite nickname is one from dirt "The Cactus Kid" Jeremy Payne. If you want to hear the story behind the name pm me.
