What happened to Mikey Waltrip during race yesterday?

He dropped off the face of the planet and other than a quick comment from ESPN he was never mention again. Anyone have an idea?

I believe he had engine problems. The fastest he could run was about 165.

If you can get it, watch "This Week In NASCAR" tonight on the Speed Channel. I'm sure he'll explain more about his engine problems as only Mikey can.

By saying 5000 words over 5 minutes with only 15 seconds of important information. Talk about beating around the bush. This guy uses a sledge hammer around a 2 foot shrubbery.

That is why it makes him a poor analyst but a great Color commentator. Just as DW.

What I think is hilirous is watching Chad's facial expressions when Mike gets to rambling. And what is even funnier is Mike will call himself on it. Has anyone noticed how big Mike's hand are? They are huge!!

Re: What happened to Mikey Waltrip during race yesterday?

There is mention of catching the show tonight that MW is a part of to get insight as to what happened to his ride yesterday.

Ole Mikey is a flippin riot on that show. Good riot. There is so much that he slips in that many (most?) do not even catch --- ever. Some (Much?) of it will never be caught/understood by those who have never directly participated in the sport as owner, driver, team member, member of governing body.

Reminds me here ("Us" for those concerned with/for the mouse) of one Soupy Sales.

Mikey's reminising with Schraeder, Bestwick, and a guest whos name I/we cannot recall (Now there's real consideration for the rodent --- the mouse too) around his acquaintence with one Mike Hunt had everybody spitting back their drinks.

Many cannot/will never recognize credit this one is due.

I do. I also think Mikey's been great on that show. The banter between him and Chad is hilarious at times and insightful at others. It's become a fun show to watch.

I'm a fan of Mikey's and love watching him on TWIN. I always liked it when they had him,Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader on the show together.

I didn't /don't like Despain doing the show.

I am openly one of those. Both he [Mikey] and Kenny Wallace rank at the top of people I don't harbor a visceral dislike for but would rather undergo a root canal than personally spend time with them. I once thought that I might suffer from coulrophobia but I have no fear of them; I just don't like 'em.

What's interesting about Mikey (to me) is that while he's hard to listen to on This Week in NASCAR and during an interview, I've been mildly impressed by his work with Rick Allen and Phil Parsons on the truck races. It's like he actually benefits from immaturity. He seems like as much of a fan watching those races go down as we do, and he actually does a fair job translating it into words. Kind of like 'ol BP. His pure excitement for the sport adds a good bit to the brodcast. Although I feel like I'm in the minority, as many people viewed Benny similar to they way they do Mike.

Now that you mention it he does do a good job when Rick and Phil are riding herd on him.

But then he's never raced a lot in CTS and I think he's smart enough to realize that the Waltrip self-serving crap that the Brothers Waltrip normally spew out on the Cup shows would come across as hollow and meaningless as it actually is. So, he wisely keeps his mouth shut unless he actually has something to add.

While we're on the subject of booth people, are you as impressed with Brad Daugherty as I am? Now, IMHO, THERE is a guy who knows what he's talking about and when he talks it's like E.F. Hutton; you listen because it's something you probably need to hear.

sometimes....

the following is an excerpt from last week's Observations (the BY400):
Quote:
OK, a show of hands: how many of you were like Brad Daugherty wondering what “that snake move” was on the straightaways? I know, but after he said “this is the only track I see it at”, I knew he hasn't been paying attention because it happens every time at Daytona and Talladega.

I am impressed with Daugherty. As you may expect, I was alittle aprehensive about a baskeball guy doing a NASCAR race. I was sure it was just an attempt at drawing a wider audience to their brodcast, and maybe it was, but it definitely worked out for everybody.

You said it, he says things that are worth hearing and he knows enough about all aspects of the sport, whether it's history, team management, and people involved to make people listen. On top of that, the man has great enthusiasm. Not the Kenny Wallace, NASCAR Raceday enthusiasm, but pure motorsports enthusiasm.

We may complain about ESPN overall coverage, but they have the pre race show that is most worth watching.

Duck is right though. Brad just plain missed the concept of draft breaking.

I guess him and Phil get along pretty well...considering Phil is on the board of directions of Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR).
