| Re: The Word From Brian Z. I thought the following quotes were especially full of crap: France said NASCAR will work aggressively to bring new owners into the sport. "Part of the goal with our new car was to bring down the barriers to entry," France said. "I know the jury is still out on that, but that's our goal. We will do what can we do to attract new owners who will field competitive teams. That's what makes us work." France said he believes more teams are getting the feel of the new race car being at all tracks for the first time this year. He stood behind NASCAR's decision not to change the rules on it despite calls for that from some teams. "I know there has been a lot of debate that we should do this or that to make the car more raceable," France said. "The decision we made not to move the goal posts around and let the teams get caught up has paid off." Looking for new owners = More people with money, not necessarily people who have an interest in racing New car= How many passes for the lead this season have been made on the track, compared to being made in the pits. It's a race car that's turned Cup into a game of follow-the-leader unril ir is absolutely necessary to try and pass.

"France said NASCAR will work aggressively to bring new owners into the sport. " I don't think he meant "Owners." I believe, to the depths of my cynical little heart, is that he has all the "Owners" in Cup that he cares to have. The more "Owners," the more different teams and the more teams the more difficult the whole thing is to control. I think what Brian would have preferred to say was he wants more "Investors." The bigger the better. Having an interest in motor sports is not necessary, and I can see where it might not even be desired. |

| Re: The Word From Brian Z. Ol' Brian Z. really tries to come across like Lee Iaccoca (for those unfamiliar with businessmen, former successful head of Chrysler), but in reality he comes across as more of a Ken Lay (Less than successful head of Enron). Reading his interview just re-enforces this in my old Hoosier mind (bless his heart). |
