I think the penalty was fair. The result was less money and less points at the end of the race.

These two were having a little battle several laps earlier. It just got to Busch as the caution came out when Montoya was trying to stay ahead of him. The incident continued to escalate.

Maybe it's over. If not, big things could happen this weekend. They will be at Daytona and I think these guys are smart enough to know that you don't want to turn another driver around at nearly 200 mph.

Re: Montoya vs. Busch discussion....

At the NASCAR trailer...

Mike Helton (MH): "Juan, what happened out there with the 18?"

JM: "He was this and that... blah, blah..."

MH: "So you turned into him?"

JM: "Yeah."

MH: "Were you being yourself when you did it or was it for the cameras?"

JM: "God didn't put Juan Pablo Montoya on earth to be someone's puppet!"

MH: "Is it true that you told that ding-dong Marty whats-it from TNT that you did it deliberately?"

JM: "Yeah"

MH: "Hmmm... okay... Darby, spin the wheel!" (Talking to John Darby to spin the "wheel of fortune" that has all the different penalties from nothing all the way up to race suspensions and death by listening to Michael Waltrip speak for two hours straight!)

MH: "Looks like you get a two-lap race penalty for this one!"

JM: "That's all?"

MH: "You want more? Then keep your gums flapping and I'll GUARANTEE you'll get more!"

JM: "Si senor! I'm outta here! Gracias!"

After door closes and MH talks to JD:

"That boy has got to learn to keep his mouth shut, especially to the press!"

I know you've only been watching NASCAR for two years, but Dale Earnhardt died in 2001. I guess you meant Junior, huh?

Re: Montoya vs. Busch discussion....

Anyone else ☻☻☻☻ed they didn't talk to the 2nd and/or 3rd place guy? Usually the talk with the top 5 or so drivers. Must not have been big enough names....

It's ok, I'll be in Daytona to see the #55 in person. I won't need to worry about TV coverage.

Maybe if it wasn't for the pouring rain and LIGHTNING, we could have seen/heard these fellows?!?

Speed TV had interviews with Kurt B. and Michael Waltrip so you must have missed those...

Heck, Mikey's on the front page of NASCAR.com. That's gotta be better than being interviewed by Marty Snyder...

Re: Montoya vs. Busch discussion....

I don't agree with Montoya spinning Kyle under caution. There were to many others that could have got caught up in it just because someone decided to be a jackbutt.

Re: Montoya vs. Busch discussion....

Some of us don't get Speed... I read the Nascar.com article. Good stuff.

Back to the topic:

Montoya should have been parked for the rest of the race like Mikey. I know, I know it was rained out, but they should have called him in while the caution laps were still going on... I don't think they did that. I don't think additional penalties are needed.

Re: Montoya vs. Busch discussion....

My guess is JPM did what a number of other drivers in all three series have wanted to do for some time now...
I'll bet Ron Hornaday was jumping up and down yelling "Dang it Juan, you beat me to it!"

Re: Montoya vs. Busch discussion....

They talked to the 2nd and 3rd place finisher, just not on TNT. They were hurried to the media center (as 1st,2nd,3rd are required to do each race). I'm guessing nobody wanted to stand around and do interviews in the rain.

But they were given the full interview treatment in the post race if you watched it online, or read it.

Re: Montoya vs. Busch discussion....

It's kinda funny,
now that DEJ has won a race,
nobody cares who wins or loses,
it's all about Kyle Busch,
what he did or didn't do, who he spun out, who spun him out, what he said about another driver, what another driver said about him, etc.

People don't tune in to see if DEJ is finally going to win a race,
they tune in to see Kyle Busch. Not even Denny Hamlin or Jamie McMurray has been able to rise to KB's status.

Can't wait to see what the hoopla will be this week after Daytona, I have a feeling what ever it is, Kyle Busch's name will be written all over it.

Because he is going to win it, or be second. I predict a strong race for both him and Tony, and that could cause some fireworks on it's own merit!
