Edwards shoves Bowyer aside for Milwaukee win

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP)—Carl Edwards decided not to do his trademark backflip in victory lane Saturday night, choosing a more subdued celebration because of drag racer Scott Kalitta’s death earlier in the day.
Edwards also said the fact that he wasn’t proud of the way he shoved Clint Bowyer aside to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the Milwaukee Mile contributed to his somber mood.
“Today, what happened to Mr. Kalitta, and the way I passed Clint, I just didn’t feel like doing a backflip,” Edwards said.
While the sentiment honoring Kalitta seemed sincere, Bowyer wasn’t exactly buying Edwards’ expression of remorse for the move that ended up winning the race.
Asked if it mattered that Edwards expressed remorse, Bowyer’s brooding, silent stare said it all: Yeah, right.

Maybe it's just the new haircut Cousin Carl's sporting?

In the CTS they call it "racing."

Is it just me or is this "touch me and I'll cry" attitude most of the Cup drivers acquire, when they start running Sunday races, becoming a little bit old?

Re: Edwards shoves Bowyer aside for Milwaukee win

I have to agree with the way Carl Edwards handled himself at the conculsion of the race last night.

He chose not to do his famous back flip. He implied it was because of Scott Kalitta's death earlier in the day. But, the Milwaukee Mile just doesn't seem to have the room on the main straightaway for a "back flip" as does D-shaped cookie cutter tracks do.

Also, his pushing Clint Bowyer out of the way to take the lead was so late in the race had to be fresh on his mind. Doing a back flip would be like "flaunting" his agressive drive style and may have provoked more anger from the fans than he otherwise got. They truly expected him to drive up the the start/finish line and do the flip.

I think he did the right thing.

I think the right thing would be to stop doing it anyway.

Do the victory lap, do the "polish Victory lap".

Or just pull into victory lane.

But the backflip??

Not a fan, and it was a welcome omision from the post race for me.

I'm not saying it's anything wrong with what Carl did. But what the announcers did was wrong. When the 20 and the 88 was racing side by side for the lead and the 20 got into the 88, they started saying the 20 was wrong for hitting the 88. Then they were all happy when Carl punted Clint. I look at it this way, about the announcers and fans also, you can't have it both ways. If it's ok for one driver to punt another, then it's got to be ok for all drivers to do it to any other driver. You can't pick and choose which driver can do it and which driver it can happen to.

That is one of the beefs I have with announcers today. I do understand that even announcers have favorite drivers but I've always felt that if you want to be an announcer you have to leave your favorite and least favorite drivers at home. You (they) are there to announce the race to me and to explain issues when explanations are required. I couldn't care less about who you think is great. I wanna hear about my favorite ... just like everyone else.

You are confusing the booth announcers of today with the announcers of the days when Mike Joy and Ned Jarrett were in the booth.

They CAN have it both ways, and they do. They have the microphones in their hands and as long as they create whatever it is they try and create, the only authority they have to report to is the FCC, and then only of they use profanity or racial slurs.

The fans who view racing only through the myopic eyes of "their driver," love this sort of commentary, especially if it favors "their driver."

Big NASCAR Taboo, bumping or rubbing DEJ or Brad Keslowski. Everybody was singing praises for Kyle Busch until he rubbed DEJ. Same when Denny got tired of being rear ended by B.K. and did a little bump back. Announcers painted him to be the next worse thing to Kyle.

People are always trashing Kyle when there are other drivers out there alot worse than him, IE Carl (the Hothead) Edwards. Of course it's more fashionable to boo Kyle than it is to boo Carl.
