There are plenty of other drivers out there like JJ and JG, they have no personalities either.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

If he would just reduce the "I'm never at fault" attitude, it would go a long way to improving how he presents himself to us. He and Tony must attend the same "I'm a jerk" classes.

Dale's death has ZERO to do with Shrub and I am offended that you even use Shrub and Dale in the same sentence. No need to beat me up, just my opinion.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

No offense, but to be offended by someone using Dales name in a sentence with shrub just means you take this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much to heart.

IN the end it is just racing. It really is.

I get wrapped up in this stuff too much myself at times, and I know that.

But in the end, all of this stuff is supposed to be fun.

At least that is what I'm here for.

NOt for some crusade, or to defend my drivers honor, who more than likely couldn't care less about me.

This is just supposed to be fun, and informative, and a way to pass the time.

In the end, I'd be more likely to defend one of the folks I've encountered on line than some star who will never have half of the interaction with me than the folks on here.

My 2 cents worth, soap box back in the closet!

You're right, I do take this to heart. So be it. I am passionate. I don't think that's a fault. However, I also understand that this Forum is for fun.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

It does seem ironic that the Dale Nation loves Dale for the same reasons they hate Kyle Busch. In a few more years I think Kyle will have a following just as strong and as loyal. America Loves a Winner!

It does seem ironic that the Dale Nation loves Dale for the same reasons they hate Kyle Busch - I ask with honest and true interest and will in no way further question, slam, etc. I found the comment intriguing.

What are the reasons you were feeling/seeing/believing/referring to here?

If you'd rather just PM that's fine.

only if the winner is not dominant. then the other face takes over and they hate the winner. some people just hate winners 'cause they're winners.

many years ago in a place not far from here, I learned about winning and popularity. while my brother and I were only occasionally winning and we were loved by almost everybody. then we started getting better and as we improved the number of fans dropped. back then we used to race both Friday in Austin and Saturday night in San Antonio. as was our practice we'd stop at the rest area just north of San Antonio Friday (actually early Saturday morning) after the races and have a few brews with the other racers (and a few fans) who chose to stop. our last full year racing (before my brother went off to NASCAR and I took a job opportunity in NY) I noticed the "gang" had gotten quite a bit smaller. I mentioned it and, as it turned out, the perennial track champ, who was also now a part of our "gang" said "get used to it .. it's the price you pay to win a lot." and we were winning a lot. I never forgot that bit of homespun philosophy. turns out winners hang out together a lot because many folks don't want to be around them. never have understood why, tho...

Nope I don't think you'll see that happen. I was never a Dale fan and still am not. I appreciate what he did for the sport but didn't like his driving tactics. All that said Dale and Kyle are two totally different personalities. When Dale was wrecked he would generally get out of the car and be upset but generally he never put on a temper tantrum show like some of todays drivers do. He also was an advocate of the drivers when it came to fighting NASCAR. To a degree Tony has tried (unsuccessfully) to emulate that job.

Sorry but in my eyes Kyle will never fill Dale's shoes.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

Note: I'm in no way an expert on NASCAR or Dale but from what I've seen on TV I make these connections.

In the early years for Dale, I don't believe he was popular, he was flamboyant - larger than life, wore big cowboy hats, big sunglasses, long hair, big mustache, when racing it wasn't beyond him to rub or bump somebody if they were close enough to him or in his way, he was a very successful talented Nascar driver who became very popular. Being from the South with that good ole boy accent didn't hurt him either.

In the early years, Kyle Busch is not popular, he's flamboyant, larger than life, he wears big sunglasses, he shaved that thing off of his chin thank God, when racing it isn't beyond him to rub or bump somebody who maybe a little too close for him, he is a very talented and successful Nascar driver. Not being from the South with a good ole boy accent hasn't helped him.

I don't think it was until he and DEJ mixed it up in Richmond that Kyle went from not being popular to Evil Incarnate. I've heard on this forum how he spews venom. I've never heard him say anything worse than anything any other driver says during post race interviews. At Darlington this year, with his mother on his arm during driver introductions, the stands erupted in boos and during a charity race by Tony Stewart and Kyle Petty at Eldora, Kyle Busch, who took time off to support this cause and race was again boo'd by the stands. Yet he's the one described as classless and spews venom.

Personally I think he enjoys the boos and plays that to the crowd. Anyway, if Kyle keeps on with this winning streak I think people will be comparing him less to Dale Earnhardt and more to Richard Petty.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

Some of what you say I agree with. I also still feel that Kyle is a spewer of venom .... partially because it gets him the media attention that he feels he wants or needs. With that said I will also state that I do not in any way think that kyle is the only one who stirs the pot. There are far to many drivers out there who are never at fault on the track.

I'm also a firm believer that the media of today create a fair amount of issues. A couple weeks ago TNT reporter, Marty Schnieder (?), asked Tony the same question twice. On the first attempt Tony calmly responded by saying he didn't know. Fair enough. The question gets asked again. Tony being Tony got a bit upset. My point is that the media has a large hand in making us see what they want us to see so that their ratings will be high, therefore increasing their bottom line ...... income.

My guess is also that Kyle enjoys the volley's with the fans. I don't believe he's overly interested in comparisons to Dale Sr.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

Is it his words or his facial expressions. I've read what he has said about a situation in newspapers. And, then when I saw the video coverage on a race show he seems to smirk and acted smart. I didn't get that impression when I read the article with the same statements.

Kyle Busch has an attitude that may brush some people the wrong way and turn them off... especially some of us that are in the Junior Nation.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

Well, the racing world doesn't revolve around Junior nation. Thank God...

How this thread has morphed in to being about Jr vs shrub, or Sr compared to Scrub, I don't know.

Folks don't like him, fine.

But the fact that it irks Jr fans is what I love.

I like JR, but I think a lot of Jr fans come off as smug, and think that the sport revolves around him.

Trinket and trash sales do, but when it comes to racing, he still has something to prove.

And I hope he does. I loved seeing that big smile on his face when he won a couple of weeks ago. It was good for the sport, and great for him.

He is a very good, not great, driver. And his personality and the genuine feel you get from him is great for NASCAR.

BUT, this feeling of Jr fans that everything is about him is just flat out annoying.

I think the thread name is "Shrub Trashes Fans". Most NASCAR fans at the race tracks are Dale Jr. fans. So, if Kyle Busch trashes fans he most likely is trashing Dale Jr. fans too.

Phil, I apologize if I annoyed you by mentioned the "Junior Nation" in my comment.

Re: Shrub Trashes Fans

No apology needed. You are far from the worst offender.

It's just something that really gets under my skin. Just my opinion, I know I'm in the minority.

I hate the whole "NATION" mentality. Whether it's Red Sox, Jr, whoever.

I think it's the most annoying trend in sports today, every team is now referring to thier fans as a "nation".

It's overdone, and needs to go away. And it's just plain stealing from the Sox.
