McMurray to leave Roush after season

Jamie McMurray will not return to Roush Fenway Racing next season and has been actively seeking other employment, the Observer and ThatsRacin.com have learned. In the past week or so, representatives on behalf of McMurray have notified other Cup teams of his availability beginning next season, multiple sources confirmed on Sunday. McMurray finished 10th in Sunday's Best Buy 400 - just his second top-10 finish of the season. An attempt was made to reach McMurray after the race, but he left the track without comment to the media or the Ford Racing manufacturer's representative. -- Charlotte Observer

McMurray? He's gone at end of this season, is looking around

For some reason we felt Jamie was gong to do better than he has. Can't put measure to why.

Feel real title here could be - Roush leaves McMurray after season.

That was a disaster from the onset. Maybe go back to CG and switch with Montoya.

Re: McMurray to leave Roush after season

McMurray's shopping around for another ride for 2009 was discussed on Speed Channel last night.

Michael Waltrip and Chad Kanus indicated this might be the start of Roush's realignment for 2009 to reduce his fleet to 4 cars. If so, This could be why Greg Biffle's contract announcement seems to be dragging along. Roush could be consolidating sponsors and cars. So, Biffle could end up in the No. 26 and the No. 16 gets put aside.

Jamie McMurray is really a solid driver. He's only won 2 or so races but is competitive overall. So, where will he end up in 2009? Questionable: There's not going to be that many openings in 2009. Here's some choices:
  • Childress No. 33
  • Ganassi No. 40
  • Haas CNC No. 70
  • Hall of Fame No. 96
  • Penske No. 12
  • Waltrip No. ? (a new car)
What's your opinion?

Re: McMurray to leave Roush after season

Waltrip could put him in the 55... maybe as a deal to keep NAPA as a sponsor?

Ok, that's just a WAG, but Waltrip appears to be a terrible driver.

Measure, Michael Waltrip Racing may be Jamie McMurray's best option now.

However, do you see him going back to Ganassi because some people are saying that Dario Franchitti will be returning to open wheel racing?

Also, if Ryan Newman moves on, do you see McMurray in the No. 12?

You know... Jamie McMurray may well flourish with a different organization. One thing I know about RCR's search for a driver for the #33 is they want a driver willing to give 110%, not only on the track on Sundays, but being involved in the other aspects (testing, etc.). And this new driver would potentially be somebody that could be developed with the team. Question is, would Jamie Mac be willing to do so?

General Mills would be happy to have somebody like Jamie in the #33 since he's very fit. Good representative on the physical side, anyway.

Re: McMurray to leave Roush after season

I like Jamie.

Something has been missing with the 26 team going on 2 years. Dunno if it's the driver, the team or the owner (or all three) but there is a problem there.

Not surprised by this "news" .. but how he ranks among the "free agents" will determine where he ends up...

Right now I choose not to speculate.

According to Geoff Smith, Roush's spokesman, Jamie just signed a one year contract extension?

That's because he IS a terrible driver.
At best he has been average throughout his career, now he is just bad. If he didn't own that team, he might be in the broadcast booth with his goofy brother.
